US Partnerships Manager

This is a newly-created role continuing the expansion of our successful Global Major Gifts team at Compassion in World Farming. Your work will contribute to delivering Compassion’s mission to end factory farming by maximizing income from major philanthropic sources in the US. The post holder will be Compassion’s primary Major Gifts representative in the USA and a key member of our Global specialist team.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Income-generation
In partnership with the Global Head of Major Gifts, maximize income for Compassion’s global program by:

  • Securing at least $300,000 from new US sources within 12 to 18 months following appointment to meet (or exceed) annual target and commitments valued at $1.0m or more within 2 years
  • Expanding our prospect pipeline in the US
  • Stewarding a portfolio of high value existing US donors and funders
  • Delivering against agreed KPIs set by the Head of Global Major Gifts for all philanthropic partnerships in the US
  • Maintaining ongoing and regular contact with the Global Major Gifts and mission-delivery teams to ensure up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Compassion’s international programs to match opportunities with US funding sources

2. Relationship-building

Develop and maintain key external and internal relationships critical to achieving our planned objectives to:

  • Identify, develop and manage relationships with new philanthropic sources, build an individual pipeline to grow the pool of high value US prospects converting them into donors
  • Build relationships with and steward existing donors (as appropriate) to consolidate and grow income in partnership with the global team
  • Develop excellent internal relationships with mission-delivery, operations colleagues and other key stakeholders to ensure delivery of objectives, as well as with other members of the Global Fundraising team to deliver against our shared target
  • Identify, engage and develop a network of connected volunteer ambassadors and champions for our work in-country

3. Strategy and planning

Contribute to Compassion’s global Major Gifts strategy including:

  • As our in-country Major Gifts expert providing insight and understanding into giving trends and opportunities for us in the US etc.
  • Researching, identifying and developing other income-generation initiatives tailored to the US market in partnership with the global team at HQ
  • Horizon scanning to maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of US philanthropy to secure a sustainable income stream for Compassion’s global program

4. Face to face engagement, communications and reporting (including legal)

Manage and deliver internal and external reporting requirements including:

  • Maximizing face to face donor and funder engagement opportunities to:
  • Maintain regular contact with US Major Gifts contacts
  • Strengthen and deepen donor and funder commitments to us
  • Involve key Compassion colleagues (including those in leadership positions) to support and enhance Major Gifts activities in North America
  • Developing and managing an annual events cycle in-country
  • Managing donor and funder-facing communications including updates, mailings, proposals, budgets as well as impact and end of grant reports about our international programs
  • Providing regular progress reports for review by Global Head of function on income, expenditure, KPIs, prospecting, account planning and management etc.
  • Ensuring up to date knowledge and understanding about IRS requirements for gifts and grant-giving ensuring that all Major Gifts activities comply with US law and best practice in line with and to safeguard Compassion’s charitable status in the US

5. Stewardship, database management and financial reporting

Work in partnership with Global Major Gifts colleagues, CRM, Finance and other relevant teams to:

  • Manage the day-to-day administration, expenditure, financial reporting and database management associated with US Major Gifts activity
  • Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping, thanking and exceptional stewardship standards for donors and grantors at all times

6. Additional tasks

  • Due to the nature of the role, there may be a requirement to carry out some work out of office hours
  • Take due and reasonable care of oneself and others in respect of Health & Safety at Work
  • Act in accordance with the principles of Compassion in World Farming’s Ethical Policy
  • In all work activities, comply with data protection legislation and Compassion in World Farming’s requirements for the protection of personal information and the privacy of individuals
  • Provide formal and informal training at the request of your line manager, senior manager or a director, on your areas of expertise, to other members of staff, work experience students, trustees etc.
  • The job description is not exhaustive and you may be asked to carry out additional tasks which are appropriate to your job role, as required by your line manager.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Skills/Experience: 

ESSENTIAL

  • Demonstrable track record of driving significant philanthropic or commercial income (including successful relationship management)
  • Proven ability to negotiate and make the ask successfully
  • Track record of establishing relationships with new and diverse groups of people (in person and remotely)
  • Proven ability of organizing and managing events efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Track record of effective time-management with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well going the extra mile as a solid team player

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of Major Gifts start-up, expansion or transformation in a fast-paced, growth-orientated organization
  • Experience working in the NGO/Not for Profit sector and especially for a campaigning organization
  • Established professional network in US
