We partner with low-income families to meet their long term need for safe, affordable housing. Habitat has partnered with 600 qualified low-income families in nine counties in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, offering a "hand up and not a hand out" in their journey towards homeownership.
Habitat’s development department works to ensure generous support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and faith organizations across the region. This position will establish and manage the Faith Relations program to significantly increase financial, volunteer, and other engagement from local faith partners (ecumenical and interfaith) in support of Habitat’s mission. The Development Officer, Faith Relations will recruit new faith partners, while providing leadership and support for faith-based coalitions and other existing faith relationships that provide funding and volunteers for Habitat home building.
We’re looking for someone with 3+ years of experience in fundraising, development, or donor cultivation, program or volunteer management experience or other relevant experience, and knowledge of Greater Cincinnati’s faith and nonprofit community is beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor software preferred. Occasional Saturday and Sunday work required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Develop strategies to build and maintain faith community partnerships, including the maintenance of all current partnerships and building new relationships with diverse faiths.
- Develop stewardship, recognition, and retention strategies to sustain a growing portfolio of active partners, including regularly scheduled calls and outreach. Monitor and follow up with faith partners on their fundraising progress.
- Develop relationships with clergy, denominational leadership, and volunteer faith committees to expand the capacity of the Faith Relations program.
- Develop and maintain regular communication tools with faith partners and work with VP to create and maintain marketing materials and partnership tools.
- Provide leadership to faith-based coalitions and other faith-based committees.
- Create and maintain a detailed record of current and prospective faith partners.
- Plan and coordinate annual faith-based events and build days.
- Coordinate scheduling and work closely with Volunteer Services staff to ensure faith partners are informed about volunteer opportunities and enjoy their on-site experience.
- Serve as spokesperson for faith-based events and other speaking engagements, including home kick-offs and dedications.
- Champion and promote Habitat’s global work, including Global Village trips, our global tithe, and meaningful relationships with partner countries.
- Travel frequently within service area to visit faith partners and prospective faith partners.
- Support annual planning and budget preparation and meet annual fundraising goals.
- Serve on appropriate community service organizations, events, and committees (determined in agreement with VP).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BA/BS degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fundraising, development, or donor cultivation
- Program or volunteer management experience or other relevant experience.
- Knowledge of Greater Cincinnati faith and nonprofit community is beneficial. Respect for and openness to learning about diverse religions is essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in a variety of social and professional settings and a calm and professional demeanor when working with a wide variety of people.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly capable in relationship building and relationship management.
- Professional and articulate speaker comfortable with public speaking engagements at faith institutions.
- Ability to perform as a team player, combined with ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to work in an office with frequent interruptions.
- Experience working with committees and volunteers.
- Exceptional attention to detail with excellent follow through.
- Ability to ensure that volunteer and donor appreciation is an essential component of our everyday work.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings as required.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, current car insurance and a good driving record.
- Proficient with both computer and the internet, including donor databases (Raisers Edge experience preferred).
