Summary:

Easter Seals Massachusetts is seeking Full Time (32.50 hours per week) Seasonal 1:1 Support Assistants. Using established procedures and working under immediate supervision, the Seasonal Group Assistants will provide direct recreational and personal care support to individual patients at the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton Massachusetts, for a 7 week period beginning in late June.

Basic Responsibilities:
  • Under direct supervision, learns to assist:
  • Patients requiring support in addressing personal care needs as needed and/or assigned (e.g. peri-care, changing clothing, feeding, etc.)
  • In the social development of patients
  • Patients to access their electronic communicators, switches, pointers, feeders, etc. and ensures the equipment is hooked up and functioning properly
Assists in the support of patients during assigned activities within a variety of facility environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, area parking lots, special events, waterfront, pool, barn, etc.) Learns how to provide support for patient to enable them to fully participate in scheduled activities (including but not limited to entering the pool and participating in barn/animal activities with the patient) Under direct supervision, assists  patients in and out of wheelchairs; transports patients in their wheelchairs in and around PRHC facility ensuring the patient gets to and from activities and to the proper places safely Encourages patient independence in all phases of his/her program Establishes good rapport and build relationships with peers, patients, and Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children staff members Responds to requests and communicate information in a timely manner Qualifications:

·         High school diploma with related experience or college work in related field with education in the special needs of patients who have behavioral, learning, or physical disabilities

Preferred Experience:

·         1 or more years’ experience as a PCA, CNA, school aide, or related field
