Program Assistant (Growing Years Child Development Center: Seattle)

The Program Assistant will coordinate the management of day to day program operations and function as the administrator in charge when the Director of Child Development is not on site.  The Program Assistant will perform the duties of other center staff as needed.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate programs for the center as applicable (Field trips, Foster Grandparents, etc.)
  • Assist with marketing efforts and outreach
  • Provide program orientation for newly hired staff at the center
  • Maintain administrative records and act as liaison with state office
  • Oversee and coordinate facility maintenance services for site
  • Coordinate and complete filing of statistical reports, including required state or federal human services department quarterly reports, or other local jurisdiction documentation
  • Provide classroom program supervision, training and mentoring
  • Serve as parent liaison for classroom issues
  • Serve as emergency coverage cook or teacher for facility
  • Ensure following Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines and conduct accurate documentation
  • Perform any childcare related duties as assigned

Qualifications:Skills & Educational Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • AA in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.  BA preferred.
  • Three years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience
  • Ability to objectively assess and respond to emergency and day to day situations
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions and work independently
  • Valid Food Handler Permit
  • Acceptable administrative/computer skills
  • Extensive customer service experience
  • Must pass DSHS background check (and federal background check, if applicable)
  • Must have proof of U.S. citizenship or right to work
  • Training and certifications required by state licensing and NAEYC

Inter-Relationships

The Assistant Director will interact with supervisors, coworkers, direct reports, vendors, children, and parents on a regular basis.  A professional demeanor and flexible approach are required, as is knowledge of who to refer to when faced with an unfamiliar issue.

Working Conditions

Duties will be performed in the office, classroom, the kitchen, and on the playground. Occasional travel to other offices and/or childcare facilities may be necessary.

  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs. up to 20 times per day
  • Ability to frequently change position: stand, sit, kneel, bend, carry children
  • Must be highly flexible and adaptable, able to respond quickly to the changing needs of children, families and ESW
  • Work hours may vary to meet the needs of the children.
