Vice President Marketing and Communications

  • Create and execute long-range strategic plans in conjunction with TAUW leadership team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan that supports achievement of the United Way strategic plan, consistently strengthening the integrity of the United Way brand image, including campaign materials, message guides, and Annual Report.
  • Develop, maintain, analyze, and understand marketing and communications, including digital and social media, advertising, donor data system, and communications activities, metrics/outcomes. Effectively communicate results and findings. Implement data-driven findings to inform decisions and strategy.
  • Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cultivating meaningful relationships and brand loyalty amongst existing and potential donors.
  • Manage the development and execution of market segment strategies.
  • In partnership with Resource Development and Community Investments, position existing product offerings and develop new investment products, messaging, etc. to maximize campaign revenue and demonstrate the value of United Way to our investors.
  • Lead the development and implementation of annual market research activities. Use the data to drive marketing, communication and donor strategy. 
  • Develop and coordinate TAUW electronic communications plans, including website development, maintenance and promotion; creation and delivery of segmented email newsletters; special events; social media; and video messaging. Understand and blend owned, earned and paid digital strategies.
  • Understand and effectively create strategy, communicate, target market, and document within a donor data system.
  • Write and edit external communications from the office of the President and CEO.
  • Prepare a detailed campaign print materials plan to ensure production of all collateral pieces on tight deadlines.
  • Recruit local volunteers to chair and serve on the Marketing and other volunteer committees, providing staff support to those volunteers.
  • Develop annual departmental budget and manage expenses at or below budget. Recruit suppliers to provide services at low to no cost.
  • Supervise and direct the Marketing and Communications staff to ensure completion of their key responsibilities within deadlines. Provide learning opportunities to increase retention and enhance professional development for Marketing and Communications staff. 
  • Assure consistency and 100% accuracy of brand identity and messaging in all communications.
Areas of Responsibility: 

Public Relations Management

  • Possess a strong working knowledge of public relations, having developed significant professional relationships with media professionals in TAUW service area. Serve as the primary media contact for the organization.  
  • Initiate traditional and social media coverage through personal contact with the media, news releases, talk shows and interviews of key volunteers and staff.
  • Collaborate on the planning and implementation of organization’s major special events in a cost-effective manner.
  • Direct the preparation of position statements on critical media issues for TAUW President and CEO, including national developments that may affect local attitudes.
  • Promote public education efforts about United Way through news stories, newsletters, publications, tours, speakers and videos.
  • Provide consultation to member agencies on the development of their own public relations programs.
  • Direct pre-emptive and reactive crisis communication activities.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to help position TAUW executives as community leaders and experts on current trends in philanthropy and public-private partnerships through speaking engagements, panel discussions, volunteer service, etc. in both the private sector and non-profit community.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a related field plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience supervising marketing professionals in a similar or equivalent marketing management position. Extensive leadership experience required with demonstrated achievement in a competitive environment.
