Associate Director, Fundraising--US Programs and Advocacy

The Associate Director, Fundraising U.S. Programs and Advocacy will play an important role in planning and executing an annual private fundraising strategy for Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and Advocacy (USPA) division. Reporting to the Senior Director, Resource Development, the Associate Director position will be based in Fairfield, CT and will supervise two project managers charged with supporting key USPA donor accounts and new business development opportunities. The Associate Director will also personally manage projects connected to USPA’s major corporate partnerships. This positon will be a good fit for a strong people manager who excels at project management and enjoys setting and executing strategy.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

Fundraising Strategy – 30%

  • In collaboration with the agency’s Resource Development division and USPA’s Senior Director, Resource Development, create and implement a strategy to achieve USPA’s private fundraising goals.
  • Work in close partnership with fundraising, finance, program and marketing colleagues to position USPA with individual philanthropists, corporations and foundations as a long-term partner of choice.
  • Monitor and report on team progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Stay up to date on program priorities and how they align to fundraising trends in the private sector.

Project Management – 30%

  •  Serve as a direct liaison to the Corporate Partnerships (CP) team to identify linkages between corporate strategy and USPA’s fundraising priorities.
  •  Help maximize corporate partnership opportunities for USPA and serve as a program knowledge resource to the CP team.
  •  Support the CP team’s communication efforts for USPA donors and prospects, such as proposal and report submissions, PowerPoint presentations, materials preparation and other special projects.

Team Management – 30%

  • Lead, mentor and develop two project managers.
  • Develop and monitor a system for tracking team’s project and task management.
  • Ensure that USPA proposals and reports are of the highest quality and submitted on time and in accordance with donor requirements.
  • Promote collaboration between fundraising, program and finance teams.

Special Projects – 10%

  • Represent the USPA department internally and lead special projects or perform other duties as may be required for the overall benefit of the team.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience managing and supervising staff.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office package.
  • Fluency in English.

  • Flexibility in approach and willingness to adapt when necessary.
