Basic Responsibilities:
Direct Service:
Serve as a member of the Easter Seals rehabilitation team.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections; complete inspection check list and submit to Transportation Coordinator.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, transfers, use of wheelchair lifts, and tie-downs.
- Operate Easter Seals vehicles and transport consumers in a safe manner to and from the program and on community outings, using the most economical routes.
- Instruct consumers on proper safety and appropriate behavior while riding in vehicle.
- Assist other staff attending to consumer's needs while in the community, as needed.
- Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.
- Train individuals and small groups of consumers to develop and perform specific vocational skills and activities.
- Provide assistance with feeding, toileting, hygiene, transferring and communication, as instructed by program supervisor(s).
- Plan monthly calendar and coordinate program schedule with other staff to ensure consumers can participate in activities identified in Individual Service Plans.
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday; 7.5 hours per day.
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is recommended and related experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Ability to solve practical problems and use available resources.
- Work independently with minimum supervision.
- Interpret and follow a variety of instructions provided verbally, written, in diagram and/or schedule form.
- Maintain composure and good judgement under stressful conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, consumers and their families/careproviders, and the general public.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Possession of a current valid California Class II B driver's license with Passenger Endorsement, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
- Must be at least 25 years old to meet Easter Seals' insurance requirements to transport disabled clients.
- Position requires signed acknowledgement of and agreement to the terms of the DOT Substance Abuse Policy. Per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, a Class II B driver must agree to submit to random drug testing and pass a drug testing reference for driving positions held in the past 2 years.
- Position requires current Medical Examination for Commercial Driver Fitness Determination.
- Possession of a current certificate in Adult CPR with AED and Basic Aid from an approved provider.
- Position requires current fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.
- Position requires proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Walk, sit, stand and lift or carry items not weighing more than 25 lbs.
- Push people in wheelchairs and safely lift and transfer consumers up to 100 lbs. without assistance. Over 100 lbs., 2-person assistance will be required.
