We are looking for a dynamic and entrepreneurial Senior Director to lead PSI’s Corporate Partnerships & Philanthropy (CPP) team. This position is a highly strategic leadership role that will engage with top business leaders and global philanthropists to create innovative and catalytic partnerships that support and advance PSI’s global strategy.

CPP partners with some of the world’s leading companies, foundations, and individuals to generate lasting health impact in more than 30 countries. With a portfolio of private sector partnerships across the pharmaceutical, fast moving consumer goods, and technology industries, the Senior Director will engage CEOs and others to foster new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

The Senior Director will also play a leading role in building and growing Maverick Collective, PSI’s signature philanthropic initiative in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to engage the intellectual and financial resources of philanthropists investing $1M+ in pilots of girls and women. The initiative is Co-Chaired by HRH The Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway and Melinda Gates. The Senior Director will work closely with these Co-Chairs and Maverick Collective’s Co-Founder and Senior Vice President, to take this initiative to the next level.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships & Philanthropy will have a unique role in creating and executing a coordinated vision for innovative and catalytic partnerships at PSI. It is anticipated the Senior Director will focus on operational management for the CPP Department and developing and executing an organization-wide fundraising and partnerships strategy. They will provide high-level strategic leadership across the Maverick Collective and corporate partnerships teams, working closely with our key strategic partners and funders including corporate CEOs and the Gates Foundation. 

The Senior Director’s duties fall into three key areas:

  • Vision and Strategy Development and Alignment
  • Fundraising and Communications
  • Team Advocacy & Management

Some examples include:

Vision and Strategy Development and Execution

  • Develop and lead execution of a coordinated fundraising strategy to align CPP partnerships, funding, and roles and responsibilities with PSI’s global strategy;
  • Ensure the CPP department is operating and executing against agreed vision and goals;
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving and crisis management when unexpected challenges arise;
  • Ensuring structured decision-making in order to manage to clear priorities in line with PSI’s organizational strategy;
  • Ensure timely achievement and reporting against CPP goals and financial targets;
  • Proactively collaborate with other PSI department heads, technical leads, and the PSI country offices to identify areas ripe for partner support;
  • Design appropriate organizational incentives for PSI staff to give even greater priority to philanthropic partnerships.

Fundraising and Communications

  • Support through networking and strategy discussions the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of portfolio of new partners to help towards the achievement of CPP goals, with a particular focus on developing a pipeline of new corporate partners;
  • Ensure delivery of commitments in a way that meets or exceeds partner expectations;
  • Develop and implement a communications plan/strategy to regularly communicate CPP purpose, activities, learning and results both internally and externally with a wide range of key stakeholders;
  • Build the “connectivity” of CPP partnerships with PSI, and one another;
  • Identify external engagement and communications opportunities that promote PSI and its partnerships.

Team Advocacy and Management

  • Foster a positive work environment for the CPP department, cultivate staff, and promote coordination across the department;
  • Directly oversee Deputy Directors, Senior Project Lead, and Innovation & Special Projects Senior Advisor;
  • Oversee the CPP budgets and resources strategically and effectively to maintain a cost-effective fundraising strategy and schedule, ensuring that plans are implemented, goals are achieved, and timely reports are generated;
  • Promote accountability and transparency in the management of CPP resources;
  • Encourage collaboration among CPP teams, and between CPP and other PSI departments;
  • Encourage a learning culture with CPP and beyond to replicate successful projects, implement course corrections as necessary and learn from challenges.
Skills/Experience: 

The basics:

  • You have at least 15 years’ experience in strategic  partnership development and management gained within a major international non-profit organization or NGO;
  • You have at least 12 years’ relevant work experience in managing cross-functional teams, building relationships within organizations, and fundraising;
  • You have a master’s degree in a relevant subject (MBA, MPH, etc.);
  • You have experience and passion about working on international health issues and are willing to work hard to make a difference in the lives of those we serve;
  • You have a deep understanding of international development opportunities and challenges, know the key players and can play an integral role in connecting partners;
  • You have an excellent understanding of philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, shared value, and social enterprise;
  • You are an energetic, pro-active, practical, and motivated self-starter with problem solving ability;
  • You have excellent presentation and communications skills – sales pitching useful;
  • Budget management experience required;
  • You are fluent in English;
  • References will be required;
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred but not required:

  • You have experience creating and managing international development; programs/partnerships in either Asia, Africa or Central America;
  • You have experience living and working in a developing country;
  • You have marketing, account management or corporate experience;
  • You have advanced skills in Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, SharePoint, budget management and data analysis.
