The Opportunity
Manage grant opportunities to Feeding America network members according to donor intent and Feeding America’s strategic priorities. Work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal staff, network members, and other partners across all stages of the grants lifecycle.
- Independently manage a portfolio of grant opportunities (both directed and competitive) with varying levels of complexity, including: Draft and communicate grant awards; Create and communicate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for competitive opportunities; Lead and coordinate review committees for competitive grant opportunities; Participate as a reviewer on grant review committees; Coordinate and conduct grant opportunity webinars; Determine grantee reporting requirements; Gather, analyze and summarize grantee reports.
- Develop strong relationships and work in close collaboration with internal fundraising staff, subject matter experts and others as needed to successfully execute each grant opportunity.
- Provide technical assistance to applicant and grantee food banks at application, award, and reporting stages to ensure grant compliance and success.
- Learn and utilize the SmartSimple Grants Management System (GMS) to manage all grant opportunities.
- Continually work to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of grant processes, including use of the GMS.
- Educate stakeholders about the grants process to continually increase understanding and transparency.
- Undertake and assist with special projects as needed.
- Cover letter with resume is required.
- BA/BS degree required, or equivalent applicable experience.
- 1-2 years of direct experience with grant-making (vs. fundraising)
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new systems/technologies/tools quickly.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong data analysis skills; high level of comfort working with various/large data sets.
- Ability to multi-task, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to reprioritize and adapt to change in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficient to advanced skills in all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Advanced skills in Excel a plus. Knowledge of SmartSimple GMS a plus.
- Nonprofit experience preferred but not required.
