The Senior Gender, Adolescent and Youth Specialist will ensure that all aspects of the project are gender-sensitive and gender-responsive and adhere to the principle of “do no harm”. The Advisor will support the design and implementation of project activities that address the unique challenges and social norms that women, men, adolescents, and youth face. The duration of the project is five years and the position will be based in Kampala. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360 and final USAID approval of the candidate.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide technical leadership and support in the integration of gender, adolescent and youth concerns across the Voluntary FP activity.
  • Lead social norms and gender analyses, engaging communities as well as donor and government stakeholders
  • Develop gender and inclusion strategy for women, adolescents and youth that addresses cultural, social and political contextual factors that limit access to family planning services
  • Provide gender integration guidance and support to project technical teams with implementing innovative and impactful interventions to transform negative social norms and increase access to quality family planning services
  • Support project stakeholders to identify/develop operational and technical strategies for gender and inclusion.
  • Conduct both desk- and field-based research, data collection, and analysis.
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree and minimum of 4 years of experience or PhD
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • Demonstrated technical expertise/experience in gender analysis, gender integration, and gender-based violence. Experience in programming for adolescent and youth will be an asset.
  • Technical experience in health and understanding of local health system, policies, and services in Uganda, strongly preferred.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis.
  • Significant experience in designing and facilitating interactive meetings and workshops preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with government ministries and officials, NGOs and donors, evaluators, and community-based institutions, preferably in Uganda.
  • Familiarity with USAID gender equality-related policies and gender integration requirements.
  • Experience working on USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful teamwork, good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume work flow.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
