The Job:

As the Senior Director Development, you will be responsible for managing the AHA’s Gala fundraising events in the NYC market. Some of the key responsibilities you will have in this role include, overall responsibility for the Heart and Stroke Ball, the Young Professionals Red Ball and the Stroke Survivor Awards. You will lead development staff in the identification, cultivation and recruitment of C-suite and Upper Level Management volunteer leaders; sponsor solicitation, activation, and cultivation; maintaining and stewarding relationships with key corporate and community leaders; establishing new accounts and cultivating new customers to reach highest level of revenue generation; and building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance our mission.

In this role, you will report to Lauren our VP of Development for NYC. You will join her Senior Development Director team in NYC that includes Jaimie, and Sadia. You will be based in our NYC office and will supervise a Development Director.

Required Skills

Ideal Candidate:

To be successful as a Senior Director Development with AHA we need you to bring your 4 plus years of experience in fundraising or corporate sales, a minimum of 1 year of supervising staff at the Director level, and your ability to build powerful partnerships with corporate leaders and senior level volunteers. We need a strong manager with the ability to coach and monitor to AHA best practices, sales methodologies, timelines and volunteer engagement practices to ensure that revenue targets are reached. We want people that want to get things done and can check their ego at the door. To help you be successful you will have access to our award-winning learning platform the American Heart University as well as our sales training & relationship development program- Building Powerful Partnerships which received a 2017 Learning! 100 Award from Elearning! Media Group, and various other training and support mechanisms locally and through our National Center.

Required Experience

Requirements:

You should have the ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer recruitment and management; demonstrated ability to recruit, train, direct and supervise multiple staff in a team environment; have a proven track record in exceeding sales/fundraising goals; possess the knowledge and demonstrated ability to successfully identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top level volunteers/customers; have great organizational, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; and a proven ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures to achieve goals.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.

Experience: Must have at least 4-5 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity that includes at least 1 year of experience in a management capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
