The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Development for Heart Ball and Go Red For Women in our Mid-Atlantic Affiliate office located in Greenville, SC.
Major Duties:
- Oversees, manages, coordinates, plans and implements activities and resources necessary to achieve event campaign goals and objectives
- Using best practices, develops strategic fund raising plan
- Plays a key role in the recruitment of “C” suite volunteers
- Conducts business market assessment to determine market potential
- Plans and implements corporate goals and objectives managing overall sponsor participation, attendance, communication, and day/night of event logistics
- Assists in the planning, implementation for event related activities for Go Red For Women and Heart Ball to include individual giving, auctions and special appeals
- Manages and persuades key community and corporate leaders toward establishing recruitment and monetary goals based on market potential in their role in achieving goals
- Develops and manages strategic plan for successor management
- Develops corporate relationships to assist in furthering the mission of the AHA and local communities
- Establishes and maintains an effective database and cultivation plan for corporate prospects and individual donors
- Assists and the development of AHA event related communications including invitations, programs, ticklers, and auction information
- Supports and ensures execution of National and Affiliate policies, procedures, standards, best practices, benchmarks and guidelines
- Collaborates with other AHA staff and volunteers as needed to promote and support local initiatives and to optimize Heart Ball and Go Red For Women campaign strategies
- Ensures the integrity and security of donor information and adheres to the Affiliate’s Special Event Cash Handling policies
- Other duties and projects may be assigned to the role, which provide general assistance as needed to support the mission of the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of sales and/ or fundraising principles, practices, techniques and current trends
- Ability to recruit, manage and evaluate high level volunteers for appropriate utilization
- Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation and training
- Ability to organize and prioritize large events and multiple projects
- Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals and fundraising reports
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout assigned geographical territory and to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to use relevant tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and database programs and voice mail)
Required Experience

- BA or BS degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience, preferably in sales and or nonprofit fundraising
