Evidence Translation seeks to leverage evidence of impact by analyzing existing data, drawing out insights, interpreting results, and making clear for others what the evidence is, why the evidence is relevant, and how it can be appropriately used. Translation does not mean developing donor facing messaging or documents. It is an intermediary step of taking highly technical data or evidence and explaining or illustrating it clearly so that fundraisers, communicators and other staff can appropriately leverage and utilize the information.
The role of Senior Analyst for Evidence Translation is to analyze and interpret existing evidence – available through WV’s global databases and reporting systems – and draw out meaningful insights that can be summarized and/or made accessible and useful for internal stakeholders. This position supports the evidence translation function, by making full use of our evidence for fundraising, external engagement, communications, strategy realization and improving programme quality by qualitative and quantitative analysis and interrogation.
Data Interrogation:
- Using existing data sets available from Horizon, Grants, Private Non-sponsorship, finance and others, track and maintain familiarity with the latest data as it becomes available.
- Maintain good working relationship with the Evidence Strengthening and Impact Reporting sub-team (within Evidence Building (EB)) and the Horizon team to ensure familiarity with data quality issues, global reporting timelines, etc.
- Carry out analysis on the data to identify trends, themes and insights that speaks to WV’s global impact in the field,
- During evidence translation, the position adjudicates various interpretations regarding what the evidence means, and resolves to a single perspective in order for the Partnership to have a singular view on what a piece of evidence means.
- This position is an arbiter of what the Partnership defines as truth regarding a particular piece of evidence.
- Evidence that has been translated and curated may be questioned, or challenged either by internal or external stakeholders. This position uses persuasion and credible sourcing to convince those that bring the challenge of the validity of the evidence.
Data Curation & Resource Development:
- Develop resources for internal stakeholders that communicate the latest data in an accessible way. These may include resource pages kept up to date with a curated sample of the latest global impact data, PowerBI platforms for visualization and basic manipulation of particular datasets, etc.
- Collaborate with IT and Knowledge Management teams to ensure resources are widely known and accessible internally.
- Field requests and questions from across the partnership (Support Offices (SOs), Regional Offices (ROs) and Field Offices (FOs)) regarding WV’s global evidence of impact.
Evidence Interpretation:
- Collaborate with the Senior Research and Strategy Advisor, and the Senior Director for Evidence Building, to shape and define WV’s ‘official’ position on, and interpretations of the various datasets, research findings, and pieces of evidence about WVs impact in the field.
- During evidence translation, the position will need to adjudicate various interpretations regarding what the evidence means, and will need to resolve to a single perspective in order for the Partnership to have a singular view on what a piece of evidence means. This position is an arbiter of what the Partnership defines as truth regarding a particular piece of evidence.
Contribute to Strategic Projects:
- Contribute expertise to special projects or initiatives, as needed. This may include interpretation and translation of specific research projects or datasets, tracking or verification of changing trends, and/or collaborating with other parts of the organization on product development to showcase evidence of impact relevant to specific audiences or needs (GAM, GMC, Sponsorship, Support Office Fundraising, Advocacy).
Evidence Building Team Priorities:
- Contribute to and support priority projects of the EB team as needed.
- Experience managing large databases and carrying out data analysis of humanitarian/development data sets using statistical analysis software (SPSS/STATA, etc.)
- Experience with data reporting tools and platforms such as Power BI.
- Strong, demonstrated skills in communicating complex data or findings to ‘lay’ audiences in clear, concise and accessible formats. (Essential).
- Strong ability to view data at both the micro and macro level. Must be able to skillfully manipulate and analyze datasets, while also understand and communicate the implications of what the data is saying and why it’s significant at a program, sector, or organizational level.
- Skills working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skill in both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Previous experience working with an international NGO.
- Previous experience working cross-culturally and with a variety of stakeholders (senior leadership, field, technical, marketing, communications).
- Very Strong communication skills, particularly written, but also in speaking with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience carrying out statistical analysis, writing research reports, and doing interpretive analysis of existing data sets.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong understanding of World Vision’s programmes, core project models and sector approaches.
- Experience working within the World Vision Partnership across entities (ie. Support Office, National Office, Global Center).
- Experience analyzing and utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data4.
Work Environment/Travel:
- The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
