United Way Worldwide is the world’s largest privately funded nonprofit. Our global mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. United Way is committed to fighting for the education, financial stability, and the health of every person in every community through its extensive interconnected network of 1800 local United Ways that are active across 40 countries. United Way employees possess the passion, expertise, and resources required to make great things happen–we invite you to be a part of the change–to Live United.
Although the U.S. has made some progress against poverty, a great deal remains to be done to ensure that individuals and families living in poverty can improve their socio-economic status.
During your service year as an United Way Economic Mobility AmeriCorps VISTA, you will have an opportunity to enhance and introduce programs that help volunteers, donors and advocates understand the challenges of living in poverty and put people on a path toward financial empowerment. As a member of United Way Worldwide’s Volunteer Engagement team, your efforts will focus on building the capacity of local United Ways and their partners to support programs that engage corporate partners and community volunteers to help increase job readiness, provide tax preparation services, and financial education training.
Serving at United Way Worldwide provides a unique environment to engage with a variety of communities and organizations across the country and world that empower people to get on stable financial ground.
This position is filled with opportunities to change lives and communities through service and collaboration with the United Ways and volunteers you will work with each day. You will create memories and develop relationships that last a lifetime. You will learn about poverty and United Way’s global efforts to inspire and engage volunteers, donors and advocates who seek to provide lasting solutions to local problems.
Candidates with experience and interest in research and communications, event management, volunteer and employee engagement and an interest in pursuing a career in nonprofit and volunteer management are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Economic Mobility VISTA will help build and enhance United Way’s efforts to increase the number of economically disadvantaged individuals with improved financial knowledge and placed in jobs. VISTA efforts include researching volunteer opportunities and best practices around financial capability and employment, as well as developing and improving economic mobility tools and resources to be used across the network.
The VISTA Member will also plan, execute and increase engagement in episodic and signature volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty and how individuals can help address those challenges through service and philanthropy.
