Manages the day-to-day operations of the finance department and assists the CFO as necessary.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Facilitates the month-end closing process and provides a closing checklist/package to the CFO for review.
- Supervises, develops, and evaluates finance department staff.
- Manages the timely and accurate entries to the general ledger. Reconciles the statement of financial position account balances to the general ledger.
- Responsible for monitoring and reporting on multi-year grants to funding resources.
- Responsible for completing and distributing monthly financial statements, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’S) and related notes to the stakeholders by the 15th of every month.
- Partners with the CFO in developing and executing the departmental strategies in support of United Way’s strategic objectives.
- Leads the development of annual operating and capital budget.
- Manages annual financial audit including supervising audit staff.
- Monitors adherence to financial policies.
- Monitors and maintains the systems of internal accounting controls.
- Reviews and approves grant and United Way payments.
- Manages processing of pledge payments.
- Reconciles pledges and payments between Accounting software and Campaign software.
- Reconciles designation and allocation payments to established liability and budget.
- Confirms legitimacy of and sets up new agencies designated to receive contributions.
- Maintains department procedures manual.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with CPA/CMA
Skills/Experience:
- Five to seven years of experience in similar position. Not-for-profit experience and external audit experience required.
- Strong not-for-profit accounting knowledge. Preferably in the United Way system
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience effectively navigating accounting and donor management software (Strong preference with AccountMate and Andar software).
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to interact professionally with staff, donors, and general public
- Skilled in strategic thinking as it relates to department plans, staff development, and customer service.
