The Controller will lead all day-to-day Finance operations and supervise the Finance team members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration. The Controller will ensure the organization has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and oversee all financial compliance reporting and budgeting functions. The Controller works closely with leadership, management and partners with regard to financial information management and reporting to enhance, integrate and support mission delivery and business operations. The Controller will leverage strengths of the current Finance Team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities in order to provide insight and guidance about training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. This role will report to the Chief Administrative Officer.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Prepare monthly internal financial statements and financial reports monthly for division managers.
- Coordinate all audit preparation, fieldwork and reports and completion of organizational tax filings.
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership and partners for the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Support engagement of the board’s Audit, Finance and Investment committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
- Review and approve all cash receipt, cash disbursement, journal entry and reconciliation financial activity.
- Maintain fixed asset module and performing periodic inventory.
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the functional leadership; continuously collaborate with functional leadership to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish financial and administrative systems to support program operations.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
- Management of pledges receivable collection analysis.
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of payroll and completion of all payroll and benefits-related activities.
- Review all payroll tax deposits and related federal reports on respective due dates and reconciliation of bank accounts, assets and liability reconciliations monthly.
- Coordinate and manage financial campaign process to ensure workflow is both timely and accurate.

- At least seven (7) years of broad Finance and/or Accounting experience, preferably with knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and grant reporting.
- Solid experience coordinating audit activities, managing reporting budget development, analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and investment accounting.
- Knowledge of regulations surrounding tax preparation and reporting including Forms 1099, 990 and W-2.
- Advanced knowledge of fund accounting and reporting software, preferably MIP/Abila and Andar, in addition Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel skills.
- Keen analytical and problem-solving skills for strategic data interpretation beyond basic financial reporting.
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board and other outside partners.
- Demonstrates required core competencies in accordance with the UWGPSNJ Competency Framework.
- Valid driver's license & insurance and/or reliable transportation required for out-of-office travel as required by the position.
