Director, Employer Health and Wellbeing Initiatives

Working with the co-leads in Cancer Control and Corporate Alliances, the Director, Employer Health and Wellbeing Initiatives will be responsible for developing and sustaining employer health and wellbeing related initiatives of the American Cancer Society, including the comprehensive Cancer Health Index for Employers and other partner-led initiatives to facilitate a culture of health (through employee, consumer, and/or community engagement) can enhance value through measurable outcomes.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Drive meaningful improvement in reducing the cancer burden for employers with evidence-based solutions that actively engage employers and their stakeholders (employees, consumers, investors, community partners) in building a culture of health
  • Create systems and processes to engage ACS cancer control subject area expertise in workplace setting and in other contexts of interest to employers (community, etc.)
  • Attract and sustain new/potential employer partnerships that extend ACS mission fulfillment capability and resources

Content Development:

  • Collaborate with cancer control subject matter experts, research, and ACS CAN to ensure the major components of the Cancer Health Index for Employers are continually updated and incorporated to reflect appropriate and actionable evidence-based practices.  
  • Contribute to the development of workplace health-related content for other partner-led initiatives.

Implementation Support for Current Initiatives:

  • Working with co-leads in Corporate Alliances and Cancer Control, develop, execute, and manage the implementation of Cancer Health Index for Employers.
  • Lead the implementation process and deliver training and technical support to ACS field staff, ensuring extension of the program to additional employers and multi-year engagement by participating employers.  
  • Coordinate evaluation process and delivery of national recognition program elements.  
  • Ensure coordination and continuity with other enterprise-wide workplace health-related initiatives.

Workplace Health and Wellness Measurement and Planning:

  • Measure impact/results including key performance indicators (participants, returning participants, progress markers, customer satisfaction) to inform strategic plan.  
  • Monitor and evaluate program; gather input from internal and external constituencies, adjust, and accelerate impact over time.Identify

Implementation Best Practices

  • Lead proactive discovery of best practices in the field of health and wellbeing including experiences from employer partners of the American Cancer Society.   
  • Disseminate best practices across participating employers, including ACS and build ACS leadership in the employer health and wellbeing field.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in public heath, health care or business administration, or related field or comparable degree or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-10 years of experience preferred.
  • Plus, experience in workplace health promotion, program design, implementation and evaluation, and account management. Preferred candidate will have experience working in a mid-large size corporate setting advancing health promotion and wellbeing goals.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of workplace health and wellbeing promotion, public health, and program development and evaluation.
  • Strong project management ability.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate complex scientific research; identifies optimal analytical approaches and translates evidence into practical application for employers and other partners.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships within an organization for optimal program design and delivery and to bring consensus and closure to projects.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with targeted employers and partners to create sense of urgency. Promote awareness of cancer as a major health problem and motivate employers and partners to action in building a culture of health.
  • Outcome driven.
  • Strong communication skills. Includes development of actionable evidence-based resources and tools for employers and partners, as well as the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.  
  • Position requires some travel (10-15%)
  • Ability to solve problems promptly and appropriately
  • Ability to work within a consensus-building business environment
  • Ability to facilitate change effectively within ACS culture; create culture change as appropriate
