World Vision seeks a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Lead for the proposed USAID/Food For Peace -funded Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) in Malawi.
The SBC Lead will oversee the design, planning and implementation of SBC activities. S/he will be responsible for supporting SBC interventions across the activity by playing a lead role in guiding formative research; developing a SBC strategy and implementation plan; supporting the development of tools; and monitoring the progress of activities to ensure a consistent and coherent execution of interventions. Engaging communities is an important part of social and behavioral change as it ensures local knowledge
and context is combined with key “outside” information for solutions that last.
S/he also provides technical guidance and supervision of sub-grantees and/or sub-contractors on gender specific issues.
Act as a subject Matter expert in Social Behavior Change (15%)
- Serving as a subject matter expert in the area of Social Behavior Change issues. S/He provides technical assistance to the project, including strategy development, participatory SBC materials development, community capacity strengthening and other related technical assistance needs focused on SBC
Act as a stewardship in Implementation and collaborations with stakeholders (15%)
- Manage the development and implementation of formative research, formative assessments and innovative approaches to increase learning around SBC in collaboration with governments, partners and contractors.
Assist in Policy Development and analysis (15%)
- Support development and updating of the TOC, situation analyses, including gathering and reviewing studies, polices and materials, stakeholder and opinion leader assessments.
Act as subject matter expert and adoption of best practices (10%)
- Identifies best practices from USAID DFSA programs and global work, documents these practices, and articulates key SBC program innovation and learning priorities in updated and effective community mobilization approaches.
Act as capacity Building leader (10%)
- Leads workshops, training and other capacity building activities to build local and national SBC capacity in project areas.
Responsible for Project Implementation and Champion Monitoring and Evaluation of project outputs (15%)
- Reviewing the technical quality of the program by conducting site visits to project locations and providing technical assistance on program implementation, monitoring progress and evaluating performance, reviewing and analyzing results, and recommending changes in implementation.
Work closely with stakeholders and partners in attaining project strategic goals (15%)
- Collaborate with governments, partners and colleagues to plan, develop, and produce tools and communication vehicles to enhance capacities, policies and systems leading to improved SBC in the target areas
Attend to any other duties as assigned (5%)
- Perform other duties as required.
- Demonstrated understanding of a range of SBC approaches that address change in social norms and structures as well as individual behaviors, and that go beyond messaging to catalyzing community action.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources.
- Demonstrated understanding of a range of SBC approaches, including approaches that address change in social norms, structures, and individual behaviors;
- Knowledge of and familiarity with international assistance program requirements, preferably USAID Office or Food for Peace (FFP) policies.
- Experience with local cultural practices, social networks, and gender and age dynamics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-culturally with diverse teams.
- Ability to work with host-country professionals, ministries and with donor colleagues in country.
- Strong verbal communication skills, strong presentation and report writing skills.
- Ability to achieve results through partners.
List additional work experience required as a minimum qualification for this position.
- Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience with a large scale working with international NGO/inter-governmental agency.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Professional licenses, as required in the field and by the donor.
- Knowledge of agricultural, livelihood, and/or food security programming is preferred;
