The Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association is recruiting to fill a Director, Development position in our NYC market. In this role the Director is responsible for:

  • Achieving a revenue goal of $700,000 for the NYC Heart and Stroke Ball, CycleNation, and the Young Professionals;
  • developing and maintaining relationships with AHA corporate and community partners;
  • selling sponsorships and generating participant income for the annual Heart Ball and Stroke Ball, CycleNation, and Young Professionals campaigns;
  • developing new company and volunteer recruitment plans as well as drive income goals;
  • driving new business development through sponsorship sales;
  • recruiting and stewarding c-suite volunteer leaders based on nationally established best practices;
  • driving peer-to-peer fundraising;
  • monitoring participant fundraising trends and implementing proven strategies to maximize income;
  • conducting a minimum of 10 face to face meetings per week
  • building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance our mission.

In this role, you will report to the Senior Director, Development and will be based in our NYC office.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • ability to achieve assigned sales or fundraising revenue goals;
  • ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer recruitment and management;
  • the knowledge and ability to successfully identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top level volunteers/customers;
  • great organizational, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
  • ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures to achieve goals;
  • willingness to work outside standard hours including evenings and weekends as needed to support your event;
  • willing to travel within your territory on a daily basis, the Wallingford office as needed, as well as occasional travel to other locations in the affiliate and to our National Center in Dallas, Texas for meetings or training.

Media Group, and various other training and support mechanisms locally and through our National Center.

  • Education: Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • Experience: Experience in fundraising, outside sales and/or senior level volunteer management is highly desirable. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
