Responsible for overseeing all aspects of EOLCP operations including, but not limited to, strategic planning, project development, implementation and management, public awareness, outreach, resource development, grants writing and management, and public relations.
The Sr. Director oversees and directs all of the strategies and tasks associated with planning, evaluating, and implementing the work of the EOLCP and supervises the EOLCP Sr. Program Manager. EOLCP is a partnership of health care, community based, government, business, nonprofit organizations, and individuals dedicated to ensuring older people have information and access to make informed high-quality health care choices during the final stages of life.
Management and Administration
- Conceives and develops new project ideas consistent with the EOLCP’s vision and mission.
- In collaboration with the partners, creates detailed project plans with goals and objectives of multiple projects and modifies work plans as appropriate.
- Develops and monitors deliverables for United Way partner organizations and subcontractors involved in the End of Life Care Partnership.
- Plans and facilitates meetings and prepares, assembles and distributes meeting agendas, reminders and minutes.
- Organizes and staffs all EOLCP meetings and task forces.
- Handles sensitive and confidential materials in a professional manner.
- Supervises and coordinates the work of the EOLCP Sr. Program Manager, consultants and project partners to achieve work plan milestones and deliverables.
- Monitors and tracks work plan progress including that of other Partnership staff and outside consultants.
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with all partners, funding organizations, policymakers, local and national counterparts and other interested parties.
- Works closely with Pima Council on Aging in implementing their contracted service with United Way for their Help Line and other supportive community services.
- Remains current on end-of-life issues in Arizona and nationally and presents in a variety of settings, at conferences and meetings.
- Collaborates with other partners and United Way staff and consultants to ensure a quality work product.
- Works closely with the Sr. Director for the ELDER Alliance and participates as part of the ELDER Alliance partnership meetings and events.
Resource Development/Grant Preparation
- Researches, writes and contributes to the collaborative development of proposals for grants and other funding opportunities.
- Supports the planning process with partners and assists with the development and implementation of operational and sustainability plans.
- Researches and directs resource development efforts.
- Implements an investment strategy for community members, health care agencies, and other partners to join in funding the overall EOLCP plan and public awareness campaign in collaboration with Resource Development and Communications staff members.
UWTSA Administration and Marketing
- Identifies new partners, staff, consultants or contract personnel for EOLCP.
- Communicates responsibilities regarding work plan milestones and deliverables to other partners and other United Way staff members contributing to the EOLCP infrastructure.
- Works with the CIO, Sr. Director, ELDER Alliance and marketing director to develop appropriate marketing and public relations materials related to the EOLCP.
- Guides and represents EOLCP efforts with stakeholders throughout Southern Arizona.
- Acts as an ambassador of EOLCP to encourage groups and individuals to join the Partnership.
- Interacts professionally with a variety of people including government agencies, partners, committees, advisory groups, professional organizations, consultants, and funders.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed depending on organizational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle and able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Contract Performance/Evaluation/Reporting
- Compiles, summarizes and reports to funders on the implementation of all EOLCP projects and activities and evaluates success over time.
- Coordinates and directs evaluation and public policy activities for the EOLCP with the Associate Vice President and Sr. Director for Health Policy and Advocacy.
- Regularly reports on project progress and accomplishments to Chief Impact Officer, partners and funders as required.
- Performs duties in accordance with United Way policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings, completing expense reports and other program reports.
- Meets with supervisor regularly to discuss upcoming priorities.
Coordination/Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service as a component of all job duties.
- Provides a professional impression as the first line of contact on the telephone and in person for the EOLCP.
- Participates in local community events, fairs and conferences.
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, public health, public administration, social work, human services or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.
- Five years of experience in a leadership/management position in health care services, community development, human services or other related field. Equivalent combination of work experience and/or education may substitute for advanced degree.
- Knowledge about collective impact or related field.
- Excellent computer skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and to learn new software as needed.
- Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, research and information management skills
- Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and to respect and observe organizational protocols while maintaining professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally competent manner with diverse populations and ability to research develop and evaluate culturally relevant content.
- Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout the metropolitan Tucson area and Pima County whenever required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle and able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Working knowledge of end of life, palliative care, advance care planning, public health, community, or health policy desired.
