Under the supervision of the MDR TB Advisor, the Infection Control Specialist will support, design and scale up TB infection control activities at the primary care, secondary care, tertiary and TB facilities, TB laboratories, the prison sector and communities in the targeted provinces.
It is desired for the position to be at the forefront of designing and piloting innovative approaches to infection prevention and control and to contact management, including the use of appropriate information technology.
The recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360 and final USAID approval of the candidate.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide guidance on implementation of TB infection control measures in the target provinces for various types of settings.
- Support development of evidence-based policies and procedures for TB control and on-the-job training in compliance with national standards.
- Interact with physicians, nurses, health mangers, laboratory staff, members of the National Reference Laboratory, CSOs and communities to evaluate effectiveness and determine actions to minimize TB transmission risk.
- Design and conduct trainings in infection control measures for key audiences (e.g., health care providers, community-based treatment supporters, laboratory staff, CSOs).
- Support infection control assessments of TB laboratories and make recommendations for procedural, physical and behavioral measures to improve infection control and biosafety.
- Participate in project’s teamwork and ensure synergies between the infection control component and other essential components (laboratory, MPMDT, etc).
- With team members, make recommendations regarding laboratory/facility construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and assure compliance with national, and or professional standards.
- Contribute to annual work plan development and provide advice on scope and budgetary requirements for TB infection control support, if needed.
- Develop and pilot innovative approaches to infection prevention and control, and contact management, including the use of appropriate information technology
Responsibilities may also include:
- Lead the development of a National Guideline on TB contact tracing.
- Lead piloting of new approaches to TB contact tracing in project sites.
- Provide technical support to strengthen TB institutional guidelines.
Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in medicine or laboratory science or public health is required
Skills/Experience:
- 3-5 years working experience in the TB field or infection control in general.
- Knowledge and experience in TB or infection control implementation
- Experience in working in Kyrgyzstan would be an advantage
- Able to travel at least 50% of the time across project locations
- TB contact tracing skills are desirable
