Development Director - Heart Ball/Golf

The Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association is recruiting to fill a Director Heart Ball position in our Long Island market. In this role the Director is responsible for:

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Achieving a revenue goal of $700,000 for the LI Heart Ball and $550,000 for the LI Golf and Tennis Event;
  • developing and maintaining relationships with AHA corporate and community partners;
  • selling sponsorships and generating participant income for the annual Heart Ball, and Golf/Tennis events;
  • developing new company and volunteer recruitment plans as well as drive income goals;
  • driving new business development through sponsorship sales;
  • recruiting and stewarding c-suite volunteer leaders, team captains and walkers based on nationally established best practices for the Heart Walk;
  • driving peer-to-peer fundraising;
  • monitoring participant fundraising trends and implementing proven strategies to maximize income;
  • conducting a minimum of 10 face to face meetings per week
  • building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance our mission.

In this role, you will report to the Regional VP for Long Island and will be based in our Plainview, NY office.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience:

  • 3 plus years of experience in fundraising or corporate sales;
  • demonstrated success in achieving assigned sales or fundraising revenue goals;
  • the ability to build powerful partnerships with corporate leaders and senior level volunteers;
  • ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer recruitment and management,
  • a proven track record in exceeding sales/fundraising goals,
  • the knowledge and demonstrated ability to successfully identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top level volunteers/customers,
  • great organizational, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills,
  • proven ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures to achieve goals,
  • willingness to work outside standard office hours as needed, including early morning, evenings and weekends in support of your events;
  • willing to travel within your territory on a daily basis as well as occasional travel to other locations in the affiliate and to our National Center in Dallas, Texas for meetings or training.

  • Education:  Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years’ experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • Experience: Must have at least 3 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales and volunteer management. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
