The Financial Stability Team at United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona works with partners to improve the financial stability and security of residents of Southern Arizona.

This part-time position provides critical support to the Financial Stability Team, especially to the Director of Financial Stability Programs and Services, and especially with regard to United Way’s free tax preparation program, VITA, and the innovative Valet VITA service delivery model. No previous tax preparation experience is required; training comes with the position. The position is based at United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, reports to the Director of Financial Stability Programs and Services, and will travel throughout Pima County when required. It is a part-time, non-exempt position of 20-25 hours per week. The position is funded by grants and gifts. The successful candidate will be committed to the mission, enthusiastic about the work, possess a desire to learn while meeting challenges, and could be a university student who can make time to fulfill all obligations, a recent graduate, a retired professional who is still seeking challenge and learning opportunities, or a person who has room in her or his life for this kind of part-time employment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as staff lead/point person for Pima County Valet sites – attend all meetings with the Director of Financial Stability Programs and Services;
  • Manage all incoming/outgoing communication related to County Valet sites and taxpayers, work with Volunteer Engagement Manager to ensure adequate staffing for each shift;
  • Serve as site coordinator for the Valet VITA Hub as assigned;
  • Communicate with host site contacts to negotiate and sign Memoranda of Understanding;
  • Update program-related marketing materials and website content;
  • Coordinate brochure bundling and distribution;
  • Coordinate survey entry and consent form filing;
  • Coordinate supply and equipment inventory, site box packing;
  • Coordinate or assist with equipment testing after reimaging;
  • Assist with supply/equipment drops before sites open;
  • Coordinate supply drop-offs during the tax season;
  • Act as point person for all incoming VITA-related calls – research tax return issues in TaxSlayer, refer/transfer to VITA team as needed;
  • Create and maintain data files for easy retrieval;
  • Assist with data analysis and reporting;
  • Assist the Financial Stability Team in other activities as assigned;
  • Performs duties in accordance with United Way policies and procedures
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree, or at least two years of strong academic performance toward the Bachelor’s;
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong organizing skills; Ability to be very detail-oriented, with strong conceptual skills as well;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is helpful;
  • Strong computer software skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, along with comfort with social media and other apps;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, sometimes under time constraints;
  • Enjoys working on teams;
  • Ability to work Saturdays and evenings occasionally;
  • Willing to become IRS-certified as a tax preparer;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle;
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Part-Time - 20-25 Hours per Week

Hourly Rate:  $16.83
