United Way of Central Iowa is seeking a Creative Services Manager to manage and create the design and production of print, digital, and video communications and expanding opportunities for storytelling through photography, videos, and design. Working in a highly collaborative environment, this position will strengthen United Way of Central Iowa’s brand and deliver engaging communications products targeted to donors, volunteers, opinion leaders, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and the community. The position reports to the Strategic Communications Officer.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Working closely with the Strategic Communications Team, manage and develop creative and visual design of communications products to meet organizational needs. This includes leading the direction of all visual aspects of communications pieces and methods, including creative concept, storyboarding, design, layout, videography, photography, and graphics.
  • Through a collaborative process, develop the visual identity for United Way programs and creative concepts for campaigns within the United Way of Central Iowa brand.
  • Design or oversee the design of primary marketing materials for print and digital communications.
  • Produce videos and/or manage production of videos, including creative concept, recording, interviewing, editing, and distribution to tell stories, promote United Way, and/or feature at events.
  • Develop United Way of Central Iowa’s photo library for print, web, video, and social media. Serve as in-house photographer and manage freelance photographers.
  • Work closely with outside consultants and printers as needed. Ensure all communications and products adhere consistently with United Way of Central Iowa branding strategy.
  • Manage compliance with United Way brand and logo usage. Advise staff, volunteers, and partner agencies on proper usage.
  • Self-manage deadlines using project management software.
  • Direct and guide workflow activity of staff intern or volunteers as applicable.
  • Work as part of strategic communications team to meet departmental and organizational goals as applicable.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Media Production or related field, or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to five years relevant experience in a corporate or nonprofit environment. Strong graphic design experience and experience in photography and videography. Experience with maintaining and updating digital property graphics and content preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Proactive self-starter.
  • Must be able to diplomatically enforce deadlines.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and take pride in work quality.
  • Willingness and ability see a project through to completion and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends related to special projects, meetings and events.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Work in an office environment and maintaining regular office hours for team collaboration and availability for staff inquiries and assistance.
