Michigan 2-1-1 – http://www.mi211.org/ is seeking a collaborative leader to serve in the Executive Director role. In partnership with the Michigan Association of United Ways, Michigan 2-1-1 provides a vital conduit for resources, funding, information and education that regional 2-1-1 contact centers across the state rely on. Last year, more than half a million Michigan residents turned to 2-1-1 for health and human service information and referrals and the numbers continue to grow. Whether it’s assistance with medical help, foreclosure prevention programs, shelter or utility assistance, help with food or clothing, or any other challenge a family might face, 2-1-1 centers offer a lifeline to individuals in need. Michigan 2-1-1’s unified database system and service model, established in 2002, is ready for its next phase of growth. It requires a visionary leader to help chart the course.
The successful candidate will be an influential communicator with excellent project management skills and strong business acumen; a person capable of leading Michigan 2-1-1 and supporting the 7 regional contact centers it serves. As the public face of the organization, the ED must have an engaging, compelling presence and be passionate about the role that 2-1-1 plays in providing safety-net services for the most vulnerable populations in our state. This position requires the ability to energize, organize and propel Michigan 2-1-1 forward in fulfillment of this mission.
The Executive Director provides leadership to the statewide coordinating body for 2-1-1 information and referral services in Michigan. In partnership with the Michigan Association of United Ways (MAUW), the Executive Director is responsible for implementing the policies and directives of the Michigan 2-1-1 Advisory Board. The Executive Director also performs policy, advocacy, business development, and management duties related to Michigan 2-1-1, and is responsible for working with the Board to conceive, develop and implement strategy and tactical plans.
Specific job duties include:
- Responsible for overall leadership in the development and implementation of short and long-range plans and policies and other activities. Responsible for the development, implementation, and accomplishment of the annual work plan and goals of the organization as approved by the MI 2-1-1 Advisory Board and MAUW Board.
- Responsible for administration of operations, including: managing staff and contractors, reviewing and evaluating the results of program activities; ensuring that continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled; allocating resources for greater program effectiveness and efficiency; and developing organizational and administrative policies and program objectives for Board consideration and action.
- Responsible for ensuring a strong system of internal controls with appropriate oversight of assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses. Maintains an effective financial management system for accurate and timely financial information. Develops and implements annual budgets in compliance with Board policy and proposes revisions as necessary. Ensures that annual financial audits and tax filings are completed on a timely basis. Protects legal and regulatory interests and maintains operations within the law.
- Represents Michigan 2-1-1 and promotes positive relationships in its business associations with regional 2-1-1 centers, government agencies, the media, community organizations, funders, professional organizations and similar groups.
- Responsible for negotiating funding contracts with state agencies and other funders in support of state 2-1-1 operations. Works closely with State administrators to identify priorities and initiatives in alignment with board approved plans and policies.
- Ensures the establishment of a highly effective, up-to-date technological system that is fully compatible with the systems utilized by regional 2-1-1 centers and outside partners to support coordinated and integrated statewide 2-1-1 service delivery. Manages relationships and contracts with database and contact management vendors on behalf of the statewide 2-1-1 system. Oversees and ensures effective data collection to meet contract requirements for reporting and quality assurance, and to promote understanding of community needs to inform program development and policy decisions by Michigan 2-1-1 and outside partners.
- Provides executive leadership as directed by the Michigan 2-1-1 Advisory Board and in partnership with the Michigan Association of United Ways.
- Attends and participates in board and committee meetings, as requested.
- Recommends goals and objectives for any annual and long-range plans of the organization.
- Ensures that plans, goals and objectives adopted by the Board are implemented and provides regular monitoring and reporting to the Board in this regard.
- Works in partnership with the Board to identify and recruit a diverse representation of board members to provide governance and leadership to the 2-1-1 system.
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience, and a proven track record of successful non-profit organizational management.
- This is a high-level position requiring strong organization, communication and relationship building skills.
- A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to secure funding and implement innovative programs and services in collaboration with the Michigan 2-1-1 Board, regional 2-1-1 centers, Michigan Association of United Ways, key stakeholders, community partners, government agencies, donors and volunteers.
