The Protection & Gender Assistant has a dual role of implementing the WFP Protection and Gender programme interventions, as well as ensuring protection and gender mainstreaming across the programme. S/he will be responsible for initiating action in the areas of protection and gender, identify and deal appropriately with existing and emerging child protection and gender gaps/issues, and generate ideas for programming.
To provide technical support in relation to relevant child protection and gender standards; mainstream child protection and gender in all food programming, and ensure adherence to child protection minimum standards in humanitarian action (SPHERE Standards) and principles as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct.
- Ensuring compliance to Protection and SGBV standards of operation and other guidelines in the district
- Capacity building of programme district staff and key stakeholders in protection, child protection and Gender/GBV including facilitating of key training packages in alignment with the programme plan
- Partner engagement, representation and networking with respect to the protection, gender and related subsectors
- Community & stakeholders education and dialogue for behavior change/policy enforcement
- Providing guidance and quality assurance for implementation of Protection and Gender interventions as well as mainstreaming of protection considerations, gender analysis and approaches for achieving gender sensitive and transformative outcomes in the programme.
- Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages preferred (Caring for [Child] Survivors of Sexual Violence, psychological First Aid in Emergencies, Child Protection in Emergency Minimum Standards, and GBV IMS,International Humanitarian & Human Rights Law Foundations, etc.).
- At least 2 years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts. Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
- Ability to communicate and work with beneficiary communities, government and stakeholders at the district level
- Experience in training and community consultation highly desired
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes
- Networking and collaboration skills
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
