Works with his/her team to position UWCM as the preferred partner for organizations and individuals who seek to make a difference through giving and engagement. Leads all aspects of resource development and marketing, leveraging the best of our tried and true fundraising practices while simultaneously re-inventing the playbook and engaging new audiences, resulting in new revenue streams. Captures the imagination of next generations while also re-introducing the United Way brand to those who think they already know us by delivering a comprehensive program ranging from innovative social media strategies and hands on engagement activities inside and outside of the workplace through PR, advertising and communications. Reaches win-win formal agreements with corporate customers by listening intently to their corporate social responsibility goals. Delivers memorable customer experiences that build loyal donor relationships and meet revenue goals. Is a great partner to volunteer leaders and committee chairs. Serves on the Executive Management Team and represents UWCM at local, regional and national levels, as needed.
Strategy and Organizational Structure (30%)
- Leads and manages all resource development lines of business including: Corporate and Workplace Relations, New Business/New Partnerships, Donor Relations and Division Operations.
- Partners with Executive Management Team colleagues to develop organizational goals and objectives related to revenue generation.
- Leads Development Team in the creation of a comprehensive resource development strategy aligned to the organizational strategy with defined business/operating plans for each year
- Works hand-in-hand with the Chief Impact Officer and his/her team to align UWCM’s programmatic priorities and revenue generation efforts to enable our organization to make an impact.
- Crafts the Development and Marketing budgets and assumes responsibility for their administration.
- Reviews and analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of resource development initiatives; researches, tests and implements new strategies, initiatives and approaches to increase revenue.
- Assists the CEO in establishing and developing appropriate operating policies and procedures affecting resource development initiatives.
Fundraising for Impact (30%)
- Works with Directors of Development to plans and implement annual workplace fundraising campaigns.
- Works collegially with the Chief Principal Gifts Officer who creates and implements plans to cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective major gifts, and address any issues related to those gifts.
- Builds and supports a discipline of effective relationship management and accountability within the Development Division and within areas providing critical support to it.
- Cultivates and sustains positive, productive relationships with volunteers, community and business leaders, donors, fund recipients and staff.
- Educates staff, volunteers, and members of the business and financial community about United Way’s resource development initiatives.
- Evaluates resource development results; recommends changes, organizes and develops an appropriate volunteer structure through which the community-wide support is achieved; provides support and assistance to the volunteer leadership and Development staff.
- Works with the CEO and CTO to plan, organize, and implement new revenue streams to support community impact work. This includes but is not limited to digital giving platforms, endowment campaigns, fundraising events and affinity/membership group programs.
Marketing and Communications (20%)
- Works with the AVP of Marketing and Communications and his/her team to developing and direct the implementation of long- and short-range plans to meet UWCM’s marketing and communication goals. This includes the design, shape and execution of a comprehensive, multi-faceted donor and stakeholder plan that supports UWCM’s strategies and objectives, builds relationships with key audiences and works to position UWCM as the preferred partners for giving and volunteering.
- Works with the AVP of Marketing and Communications to help UWCM become a true story telling organization, training all key stakeholders on our brand guidelines and key messaging.
Organizational Management (20%)
- Serves on UWCM’s Executive Management Team. Serves on internal and external boards, task forces and committees, as needed. Provides supervision, coaching and development to staff.
- Plays key role in development and stewardship of UWCM’s budget and multiple cost centers. Serves as a corporate officer and co-signatory for UWCM bank accounts.
Includes a wide range of constituents in private, public & nonprofit sectors at local, state & national levels.
- A minimum of 7+ years of experience including progressively responsible management and supervisory responsibilities as well as demonstrated performance in fundraising. American Fundraising Professionals (AFP) accreditation desired.
- Desire strong planning, marketing and public relations, fundraising and/or program experience w/extensive knowledge of United Way system and the central Maryland community.
- Demonstrates leadership, vision and insight; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, customer focus, teamwork and strength in managing volunteers & coaching staff.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow through.

Salary: $121,000 to $140,000 per year
