The Economic Mobility AmeriCorps VISTA will help build the capacity of United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Volunteer Budget Coaching and Financial Center programs. Duties will include but are not limited to expanding outreach and service delivery of free tax preparation and financial coaching throughout our service area, explore strategies to recruit, train, and measure the accomplishments of volunteers that assist with service delivery, collect stories about volunteers and filers at the tax site, ensure volunteers are supported at their tax site and recognized for their efforts and help develop a strategy for local employers to offer free tax preparation as an employee benefit. VISTAs will also collaborate with local partners to expand participant recruitment and plan and execute two episodic volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty.
This is a one year commitment beginning in June 2018 with an end date in June 2019.
AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest, monthly living allowance to help cover the basic necessities. VISTA members who successfully complete a term of service are also eligible to receive either a Segal AmeriCorps Economic Mobility Award of $5,815 to pay for college or to pay off student loans, or an end-of-service cash stipend of $1,500.
AmeriCorps VISTA offers Childcare assistance if eligible, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend upon successful completion of service, Health Coverage, Living Allowance, Relocation Allowance, and training.
