The Halle Heart Children’s Museum is an extraordinary educational learning center dedicated to driving the mission of the American Heart Association (AHA) by teaching and empowering visitors of all ages about the importance of choosing life-long, heart-healthy behaviors. This is a fun, interactive environment that illuminates the function of the heart, its role in the body and ways to keep it healthy.

The Heart Guide is responsible for educating and increasing awareness of the risk factors, treatments and prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke through established curriculum. Interacts with guests either in a one-on-one setting as a docent or in a group setting as a tour guide. This is a part-time position and we request a minimum commitment of at least two days of availability per week / 416 hours per year minimum.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Guide visitors through their discovery of the Halle Heart Children’s Museum
  • Provide information, based upon set AHA curriculum for each exhibit area, on cardiovascular disease and stroke, circulatory system, nutrition, exercise, and living tobacco-free.
  • Educate visitors on the warning signs of a heart attack and stroke.
  • Engage parents, caregivers and group chaperones in maintaining discipline and group control.
  • Instruct and supervise visitors to use interactive technology for maximum impact on their experience
  • Provide fun, educational, learning experiences for all visitors.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Valid driver’s license (or reliable transportation)
  • Comfortable handling cash.
  • Comfortable using a computer for basic tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be reliable
  • Must be comfortable and effective speaking to, motivating and interacting with both large and small groups of various ages.
  • Basic understanding or ability to quickly learn about cardiovascular disease and stroke, the warning signs, treatment and risk factors.
  • Flexibility to work with diverse groups, whether of age or grade level variances, socio-economic, or educational background, and ability to accommodate/adjust tour to group's level.
