Lead and manage the financial operations, reporting and control functions for Orange County United Way. Provide financial expertise and business leadership to staff, donors and corporate partners.
Areas of Responsibility:
Financial Operations:
- Ensure all business transactions are recorded in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards (FAS)
- Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Understand United Way revenue recognition
- Major donor transactions and donor tax receipts
- Payment of donor designations, payments to agencies and accounts payable (including 1099s)
- Payroll processing
- Treasury/banking/cash management
- Maintenance of the general ledger and subledgers
- Monthly/fiscal year close process
- Track Community Impact Investments
- Grant Reimbursement Invoicing
Financial and Business Reporting:
- Ensure all reporting is timely, accurate and relevant
- Ensure all United Way Worldwide reporting guidelines are met
- Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Monthly and fiscal year-end financial statements
- Supporting schedules for the annual tax return and for the annual audit
- Ad hoc analyses
Control:
- Ensure proper segregation of duties is maintained throughout all processing cycles (revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll)
- Ensure cash is handled in a secure environment
- Ensure all donor designations are disbursed in accordance with United Way policies, are appropriately authorized, and made according to donor wishes
- Reconcile bank accounts monthly
- Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly
- Serve as point person for the conducting of the year-end audit
- Periodically review core processes and internal controls
- Safeguard all assets and resources
Management, Leadership and Support:
- Collaboratively with the CFO, develop annual goals and objectives for all Finance staff
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for Staff Accountant
- Assist the CFO with the development of the annual operating budget and multi-year business plan
- Serve as a member of the United Way Leadership Team to support the President, Executive Team and United Way staff by providing business leadership and financial expertise to achieve the organization’s business goals
- Interface with the Board of Directors, Finance and Audit Committees as required
- Lead or assist with various projects as assigned
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a CPA certificate are required.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of strong, hands-on accounting experience desired.

Knowledge of:

- Windows Operating system, Microsoft Office software, Advanced Excel, Access
