The President/CEO is an experienced transformational leader and manager who is committed to affecting change for marginalized populations. As someone who excels at multi-stakeholder engagement, the President/CEO has a track record of fostering collaborative efforts among and between public and private organizations, community leaders, staff, donors and volunteers that have achieved measurable results. This executive is an expert bridge-builder, fundraiser, public speaker and entrepreneur who inspires and motivates others to act. A calculated risk-taker, the President/CEO is adept at developing new business and operating models while ensuring the organization is sound fiscally and operationally. The President/CEO is skilled at raising awareness of UWSD’s work within the greater San Diego community and, in partnership with the Board, at stewarding the work of the organization into the future.
Strategic and Collaborative Leadership
- Partnering with the Board, staff, major funders and community partners on crafting initiatives that reposition and grow UWSD’s brand, programs and resource base
- Providing on-going strategic recommendations to the Board based on issues and trends in the field, staff input/expertise, creativity, financial analysis and projections, outcome metrics, risk assessment, and environment realities
- Engaging senior staff and program managers in transparent conversations that energize them and produce new strategies for approaching the work.
Community Engagement
- Connecting and uniting public, private and nonprofit leaders throughout San Diego in efforts that improve educational outcomes, workforce preparedness, and support the needs of underserved families Championing the work of UWSD to public officials, business leaders and funders
- Raising the visibility of UWSD and its brand through public events, public speaking engagement and media messaging that compels action.
- Engaging donors of all types in the work of UWSD.
Leadership and Management
- Building a positive workplace culture that fosters cohesion and innovation among UWSD’s 36 staff members.
- Leading, coaching and supporting senior managers and the team as a whole.
- Overseeing the financial and operational activities of a $10M organization.
- Operating with transparency and accountability at the Board level
- Working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure UWSD’s fiduciary and compliance responsibilities are fulfilled in a transparent and responsible manner
- A commitment to lead by example, passion for creating change, and dedication to serving marginalized children and families
- Proven executive-level experience leading change within a multi-stakeholder environment
- A solid track record of raising funds for social impact causes
- Experience managing a similarly-sized organization
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
- Prior experience supervising, coaching and mentoring a senior staff team
- Experience working with senior volunteers, leaders of corporations, foundations and public agencies
- Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to speak persuasively to the media and audiences of all types
- Experience leading collaborative efforts focused on underserved communities, a plus
Salary range: $200,000 - $230,000. Benefits provided
