Reporting to the CEO, the primarily responsibility of this role is to develop and lead UWGT’s Programs and Evaluation team in the execution of our mission and implementation of our vision. This leader will recommend and implement the strategy for evaluating the impact of our work by identifying and measuring the appropriate indicators of progress against our goals. The CPO will lead UWGT's evaluation and funding strategy, recognition programs and the management of key relationships with collaborative and partner organizations, agencies and community stakeholders. UWGT is committed to working cross-functionally to achieve our goals, therefore, our CPO will be a role model and lead the Programs team in working collaboratively across our organization to ensure that our mission is achieved.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategic Leadership

  • Recommend and implement an evaluation strategy focused on measuring the impact of our investments in Collaborative Partnerships and on identifying successful and up-and-coming non-profit organizations throughout our communities that are showing measurable progress in alignment with our mission.
  • Develop and lead UWGT’s relationship management strategy with the Collaborative partnership organizations and individual non-profits that we serve. Identify and build new relationships with non-profit organizations that are having an impact in our areas of focus. Serve as lead connector between our Collaborative Partners, non-profits and other agencies and UWGT’s resources such as money, expertise, relationships and best practices to build capacity for continuous success.
  • Recommend and lead the implementation of an effective impact investment approach in order to achieve measureable results aligned with UWGT’s mission. Create and maintain resource investment and evaluation reports for use by our CEO, Board and funding sources. Oversee the department’s data management systems to ensure their relevancy and accuracy.
  • Lead UWGT’s equity mission in our capacity building, impact investing, and community connecting efforts.
  • Develop, recommend and implement UWGT’s impact investment initiatives and recognition programs such as 10-to-Watch and 3 for 3. Lead the Programs team in planning events that promote these awards to the community and generate awareness and interest in these awards as key indicators of worthwhile investments for corporate, foundation and individual donors.
  • Design and implement appropriate training events for agencies, volunteers and staff with a specific emphasis on measurement systems to demonstrate results/outcomes.
  • Manage UWGT’s deployment of resources – time, money, people, expertise, technical assistance - with a systems approach that maximizes all investments made in service to our communities.
  • Recommend and lead UWGT’s capacity-building strategy for connecting our Collaborative Partners, non-profits and agencies with leadership development and other technical assistance.
  • Act as a role-model and lead the Programs team in embracing our cultural value that everyone of us is a relationship manager with responsibility for networking in order to connect potential donors and volunteers with the needs of our community partner organizations and agencies and ultimately our end-clients that are being served.

Team Leadership

  • Assign goals and responsibilities to team members and work with them to develop strategies to achieve goals. Coach and develop team. Manage and assess team members’ performance.
  • Develop a high performance team culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement and goal achievement.

Collaborative Leadership

  • Contribute to the organization’s strategic plan and direction in collaboration with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Build capacity in our partner agencies by collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) in the community to provide leadership development, technical assistance and evaluation. Develop and manage our SME partner strategy and relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing and Philanthropy to create promotional materials and opportunities that effectively communicate UWGT’s mission and impact and strategically engage the donor community.
  • Be an organizational team player with a willingness to occasionally perform other tasks outside of Programs & Evaluation, as assigned, in alignment with the needs of the overall organization and the skill set of the individual holding the position.

Financial and Administrative

  • Develop an annual budget for Programs & Evaluation team to recommend to the CEO. Manage team and initiatives within the budget that is allocated.
  • Stay abreast of historic and new opportunities to secure foundation, corporate and governmental grants that align with UWGT's mission and work. Lead in the application and pursuit of these in order to meet grant acquisition goals as defined in the annual fundraising plan. Work in collaboration with the CEO and Philanthropy team in establishing the annual revenue goals that are to be achieved through grant funding.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (or equivalent in experience) and 15 years of relevant experience, preferred. Master’s degree or above is a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective program evaluation and development and in the identification of effective impact investment strategies or equivalent in transferable experience. Expertise in Efforts-to-Outcomes and/or other database program evaluation systems preferred.
  • Significant expertise in leadership development and capacity building in organizations or experience in partnering with SME organizations with these areas of focus.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building track record is essential with ability to initiate, develop and maintain positive working relationships in the communities we serve, throughout UWGT and other UW organizations. Having a network of established relationships within the Triangle area and Johnston County is a plus.
  • Experience with securing foundation, government and/or corporate grants preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in using a systems approach to managing teams and resources to achieve goals.
  • Experience leading organizational and operational change. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously and delegate appropriately to ensure that all goals are being met. Ability to critically assess current processes and suggest improvements.
  • Experienced team player in a high-performing, collaborative leadership team. Demonstrate respect for the contributions of others. Able to build cooperative relationships with peers, share knowledge, learn from others and contribute to team and organizational goals in addition to individual achievements.
  • Team- and goal-oriented leader with a track record of effective team leadership and development of talent. Able to create and nurture a healthy work environment which inspires creativity and commitment and where team members work collaboratively to achieve organizational goals. Experience in analyzing staffing needs, evaluating the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and coaching to ensure high performance.
  • Comfortable building relationships with corporate and foundation leaders, high net-worth individuals and community leaders.
  • History of working effectively with all people irrespective of their history, economic status, challenges, race, gender, educational level or sexual orientation. Reflect a value for the importance of diversity and have experience in creating and/or working in diverse organizations.
  • Powerful advocate for scaling social change and building an infrastructure of opportunity.
  • Financial skills to develop and manage within a departmental budget.
  • Technological proficiency in the Windows environment, particularly with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and networking skills with the ability to engage, inspire and educate in personal meetings, group settings and in written form.
  • Exceptional planning and execution skills with a results-oriented record of achievement and demonstrated ability to set goals, meet deadlines and evaluate results.
  • Team orientation, flexibility and willingness to contribute to the goals of the UWGT through a variety of assignments, if needed.
  • Passionate about the mission, vision and goals of UWGT and how this position contributes to the organization’s success.
