Associate Director, Women's Leadership Initiatives

Assist the Director, Women’s Leadership Initiatives in the planning and execution of key women’s initiatives and events. Take the lead on planning and organizing Leading a Life of Purpose event. Manage and support the Cole Women’s Society to grow and retain membership. Provide staff support and direction for the Cole Cabinet and committees and the Cole Women Power Panels. Interface with marketing on event and marketing functions. Manage a fundraising portfolio including the planning and execution of strategies to drive year-over-year net increase in Tocqueville revenue (dollars) and membership (donors), while reducing churn, in accordance with the plan. Develop personal relationships in his/her assigned portfolio of current Cole Women and Tocqueville donors as well as with prospects, and strengthening donors’ and prospects’ connectivity with UWMA. Execute individualized plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and secure gifts working independently and in conjunction with Development Officers, ECMs, Leads, Loaned Executives and Society Cabinet volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Assist in all efforts to grow and retain the number Cole women and overall Tocqueville level members through donor touches and developing event/engagement activities; Cultivate donors for larger gifts and help engage members in the work of United Way;

Essential Duties

  • Create, prioritize, execute and achieve the growth plan for Cole Women’s Society membership and giving at a net growth rate number (donors) and percentage (dollars) consistent with the plan.
  • Create and achieve the growth plan for Tocqueville Society membership portfolio and giving at a net growth rate number (donors) and percentage (dollars) consistent with the plan and secure Tocqueville membership recommitments from assigned portfolio of donors in timeframe appropriate to giving channel (e.g. workplace campaign, individual year-end giving, etc.)
  • Manage the Cole Women’s cabinet and provide staff support for the cabinet and committees including assisting the volunteers with securing meeting dates and locations, sending meeting notices and providing meeting minutes.
  • Plan and organize the Cole Power Panels and Leading a Life of Purpose events including securing panelists, venue, developing the program and sponsor packets; track sponsors, budget and overall plans for events; direct marketing in the execution of specific goals and budget as they prepare to implement event logistics.
  • Maintain an active, identified pipeline of 25 Tocqueville prospects with capacity to make a major gift. Devise and execute appropriate individualized strategies to bring prospects to solicitation and closure.
  • Work in collaboration with Campaign teams, volunteers, board members and other UWGA staff in creating and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure.
  • Enhance stewardship and building long-term relationships with individual Cole Women and Tocqueville members leading to investment in and engagement with UWGA’s work. Conduct personal visits to sustain and enhance one-on-one relationships with donors.
  • Manage the preparation of donor presentations and proposals.
  • Leverage volunteer sponsorship to offer mission based luncheons/dinners/seminars/volunteer opportunities to donors, connecting them with UWGA’s work.
  • Maintain CRM tracking system; sufficient records, contact information, and donor database.
  • Provide referrals to Executive Director of Planned Giving, Grants and Foundations or Gift Officers as appropriate.
  • Work well independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential and existing donors.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising
  • Consultative sales experience
  • Excellent presentation and personal communication skills
  • Proven track record of success in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of five and six figure gifts
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship.
  • Basic understanding of customer relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Understanding of fundraising database programs and software
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multifunctional or diverse areas.

Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Solid relationship-building skills, able to comfortably interface with high net worth individuals
  • Able to effectively articulate the case for support so that individuals "buy in" to the vision/mission/goals, and gifts are secured at assigned donor giving levels
  • Must be able to travel around the metropolitan Atlanta region; use of an automobile is required
  • Must have a driver’s license; weekend and evening work is required
  • Personal belief in and passion for United Way’s mission, goals and objectives
