This position creates and implements marketing and communication efforts to raise visibility and engage individuals and groups in the opportunities to support the mission, initiatives and programs of United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area. This includes but is not limited to 2-1-1 Mid-York, R4K, Fit Kids Fit Future, ESPRI, Free Tax Prep, Young Leaders United, Women United, and all events/campaigns to generate revenue and further impact in areas of health, education, income and community safety net.
Areas of Responsibility:
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manages community outreach to raise visibility and ensure maximum community participation.Creates and implements organizational communications, ensuring a consistent brand experience that is aligned to United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area’s mission and vision and United Way Worldwide branding guidelines.
- Plans and executes strategic communications to build United Way brand and strengthen relationships with key constituencies. Includes messaging efforts, year-round marketing plan, media donations and coverage of United Way and its programs and initiatives.
- Create and plan marketing tactics for each of United Way’s initiatives.
- Acts as the organization’s lead media contact, and on site media coordinator, handling both short- and long-term public relations activities, as well as media buying, strategies and execution.
- Speaks on behalf of the organization at the direction of the Executive Director or Director of Development and Marketing.
- Handles all aspects of communication via traditional Public Relations channels and digital marketing including press releases, social media, e-newsletter campaigns and maintenance of the organization’s website.
- Conceptualizes and executes graphic design and layout. Oversees approved outsourced projects involving graphic design, video production, printing, etc.
- Manages and executes crisis communication plans as needed.
- Work with Resource Development department to create and update individual company ePledge websites to reflect United Way branding, messaging in conjunction with each individual company.
- Complete reports on time as required. Example: bi-monthly Board of Directors report, Reports for external funders.
- Plan, monitor and implement annual budget for Marketing activities, including tracking expenses, invoices and reporting.
- Execute organization brand strategy in accordance with United Way Worldwide Brand guidelines. Ensure all projects follow brand guidelines.
- Creates and maintains visual representation of United Way, including digital/videos, imagery, signage, trade show presence, brochures, annual report, pledge forms, campaign toolkit items and other handout materials.
- Participate in and carry-out agreed upon strategic directives.
Other
- Primary liaison and coordinator of Marketing & Communications committee.
- Stays knowledgeable of sector research (both inside and outside of United Way). Researches and shares best practices, trends, and development trends regularly.
- Performs other duties in support of United Way operations and functions, as assigned, including assistance with pledge processing and fund-development efforts.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree or five years of experience required. BS in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills verbally and written.
- Demonstrated command of digital marketing and functions.
- Demonstrated command of public relations and media relations.
- Preferred proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours.
