The Corporate Development Officer is responsible for raising funds from the corporate sector by managing and stewarding a portfolio of signature corporate accounts, developing a pipeline of prospective supporters, generating opportunities for cause marketing and in-kind gifts, and engaging corporate leaders in Habitat’s mission and events.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Maintain a Portfolio of Signature Corporate Partners

  • Manage a portfolio 10-25 $100K+ priority corporate partners
  • Sustain and grow current levels of support via a holistic, outcomes-driven approach that includes grassroots support through executive engagement
  • Manage speaking engagements and presentations with corporate partners and potential partners, including coordination with Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley (HEBSV) leadership
  • Ensure timely and accurate acknowledgment and reporting to funders
  • Maintain and ensure accurate, up-to-date physical and electronic information on grants and sponsorships, and maintain accurate information in the development donor database

New Business Development – Pipeline Generation

  • Conduct prospect research on an ongoing basis to ensure an appropriate pool of corporate funders to help HEBSV achieve short and long-term fundraising goals
  • Leverage HEBSV staff and volunteer leadership to identify and connect with prospective corporate partners and corporate executives

Cause Marketing and Gifts in Kind

  • Cultivate companies and industry groups whose business objectives are aligned with our mission, and identify opportunities for them to support HEBSV through funding and/or products or services
  • Build relationships with companies who offer a variety of opportunities to support HEBSV, including in-kind donations, cause marketing opportunities, and other mission-matched activities

Engaging Corporate Leadership in mission and events

  • Identify and cultivate individuals within the corporate community whose influence can improve solicitation success for proposals
  • Identify and engage executive champions to support and maximize our partnerships
  • Engage leaders in Habitat events, i.e Executive Build, Womens Leadership Build, Cycle of Hope, Home Dedications, etc.
  • Identify and cultivate Governance Board and Foundation Board prospects
  • Coordinate event participation with portfolio accounts

Marketing and PR

  • Assist with design and production of marketing materials for corporate development
  • Coordinate PR benefits and recognition for corporate partners at all levels
  • Develop cause-related marketing and/or similar programs

General Activities

  • Support the development of the annual strategic plan objectives and provide input in the annual Corporate & Organizational Giving team plan
  • Develop an annual budget and monthly cash flow for income and expenses in areas of corporate sponsorship and in-kind gifts
  • Work in a team environment on department activities and initiatives with a positive attitude
  • Assist with outreach and speaking engagements and attend organizational events
  • Manage relationships proactively and with professionalism
  • Manage and protect organization’s resources
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years experience in corporate development or sales
  • Experience in affordable housing and/or construction industry preferred
  • Interest and experience in building corporate partner relationships, especially those from the ground up
  • Experience working with C- and Senior Level corporate executives
  • Experience with employee-driven activity, such as employee giving campaigns
  • Exceptional writing and speaking skills: ability to make dynamic group presentations and the ability to translate complex issues into clear, simple ideas to tell a story; strong command of the English language
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and function smoothly under strict deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Creative and strategic thinker
  • High-level computer literacy and internet skills; knowledge of donor management systems
  • Strong team player as a member of Development Department that also works well independently
  • Commitment to affordable housing and the mission of HEBSV
