Director, Education Partnerships

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that advance United Way of the Midlands community goals for education and youth including managing the Youth in Transition initiative. The candidate will recruit, train, and assist committee volunteers and partners develop and oversee and implement these agendas. The Director will also support UWM’s overall policy and advocacy including, engaging volunteers in advocacy and producing relevant reports/information as necessary. Other responsibilities include representing United Way of the Midlands on community groups, coalitions, taskforces, as appropriate; identifying and pursuing relevant partnerships, and generating resources to support these goals including grants. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Research, Planning and Evaluation

  • Collect, manage, and analyze data including best or promising practice research to support development and implementation of UWM education and youth strategies. 
  • Facilitate process to establish outcomes, objectives, strategies, action steps and evaluation strategies for Community Impact plan.
  • Manage UWM grants developed and awarded through Education Council.

Resource Development

  • Research public and private sources of grants, gifts, in-kind goods to support education and youth strategies.
  • Write or oversee submission of private and federal grants to support education and youth initiatives.

Public Policy

  • Staff UWM Public Policy Subcommittee.  
  • In partnership with colleagues, organize or participate in briefings for public officials, legislators, business leaders and the nonprofit sector to inform and shape policy related to UWM priorities and coordinate legislative events
  • Assist in development of advocacy and education communication on UWM issues including organizing op-eds, blogs or other regular and social media avenues for education.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Public Administration or related fields.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in community development, grant writing, program development, volunteer management, research, evaluation, nonprofit management, and report writing.
  • Experience in education, youth development or areas related to strengthening families a plus.
  • Excellellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skills using Windows based software including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree with one to three years of professional experience.
