Through its Wish Fulfillment program, Wish of a Lifetime connects seniors to people, purpose, and passions to eliminate feelings of isolation and help them live vibrant, purposeful lives. A true Wish of a Lifetime achieved makes other goals seem possible, and encourages Wish Recipients to keep dreaming and pursuing their passions. Helping an older adult achieve a long-held or deeply meaningful dream can have tremendous positive outcomes on their health, purpose, and sense of value. Wish Recipients report that they are happier, healthier, and feel more involved in the world after having a Wish granted.
Wish of a Lifetime has four Wish Categories: Fulfilling Lifelong Dreams, Reconnecting Loved Ones, Renewing and Celebrating Passions, and Commemorating Service. The unique history of each wish allows WOL to build awareness of the sacrifices and accomplishments of our oldest generations, inspiring others to see seniors differently in their everyday lives. The experiences also provide the opportunity to confront stereotypes about aging by sharing the stories of seniors who are achieving goals that the generic public may find surprising – like the 92-year-old who went skydiving, or the tech-savvy 97-year-old who toured the Google campus.
