The Opportunity
As one of GreenLight Fund’s strategic national functions and with a growing number of sites across GreenLight’s network, the Manager of Development Support Services will play a key role in driving the development site support and systems function to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of site staff. They will support site teams through an array of services: including strategy development and coaching on local investor stewardship, grants management, investor engagement in local events, and prospect development and pipeline management during a fund raise in addition to supporting strong development operation standards. 

The Manager of Development Support Services will also partner with the Vice President of Development and Expansion (VPDE) to provide hands-on coaching to individual site staff or cohorts of GreenLight sites to ensure they have the knowledge, tools, and capabilities to successfully engage their investors and build their local development capacity.

In 2024, the Manager of Development Support Services will provide operational support to at least 4 GreenLight sites who are in active fundraising. They will also be responsible for revamping GreenLight’s development resource library, including the Investor Relations Handbook, and supporting the DevEx’s team annual learning agenda. 

Reporting to the VPDE, the Manager of Development Support Service will serve as a member of the larger national Development & Expansion (DevEx) team, which includes the Director of Expansion, Manager of National Development, and Gift Coordinator. This is an internally-facing position, but will require some travel to sites and for all-staff meetings.

 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Train, Coach and Advise GreenLight Sites

  • Increase capacity for sites to effectively engage their investors and raise funds by providing strategic and tactical support/expertise for key development activities and investor communications. 
  • Develop systems/practices to foster and facilitate collaboration and information-sharing between site staff.
  • Coach site staff on best practices around grant writing and reporting. 
  • Proactively partner and communicate with site teams to develop and strategically leverage their annual Investor Action Plan.
  • Ensure site teams incorporate Salesforce data and feedback from investors to strengthen their annual engagement (stewardship) efforts.
  • Develop and lead training sessions with site staff rooted in GreenLight’s Development Resource library and provide guidance on tools and resources available. 
  • Provide site teams with event planning expertise in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team specifically around investor engagement, event outreach, and follow up.  

Site Support Strategy and Infrastructure 

  • Provide hands-on support and capacity to sites during staff transitions/vacancies (e.g. tracking Salesforce activities, managing up as the ED executes their investor action plans, support on grant proposal and report writing as needed).
  • Regularly identify opportunities to improve GreenLight development systems, training, and support to sites.
  • Maintain and develop new investor engagement and outreach templates, acknowledgement, and gift reminder templates, fundraising best practices and other documents, tools, or templates as requested. 
  • Ensure documents and resources related to site support are captured in the Development Resource library and ensure they are accessible and easy to navigate/digest for site staff.
  • Collaborate with VPDE to evolve the development support function over the next 2-3 years as we work to create efficiencies and bolster effectiveness throughout our systems. 

Networkwide Development Systems & Support 

  • Provide support and input on quarterly board reports and materials as needed. 
  • Participate in cross-functional working groups and collaborate on special projects that advance key organizational priorities.
  • Provide on-site event support across the GreenLight network as needed. 
  • Support national and site staff onboarding in collaboration with other DevEx team members. 
  • Provide coverage for DevEx teammates as needed, as urgent needs arise or priorities shift.  

 

Skills/Experience: 

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is people and process oriented, is energized by a fast-paced growing organization, enjoys working on all aspects of fundraising and development, and thrives in supporting teams in achieving their unique goals. They will be skilled at building community, facilitating collaborative conversations, empowering others through empathy, and must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and can apply this commitment in all aspects of our site support work. 

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, a successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications, experience and personal attributes and a demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly:

  • Experience leading multiple facets of fundraising and development, including stewardship and cultivation of high networth individuals.
  • Minimum of 6 years of fundraising experience within a high-performing organization, preferably with experience in a national organization with local sites. 
  • Passion for and commitment to GreenLight’s mission and values, including our commitment to racial equity and centering communities in our work. 
  • Experience coaching and guiding individuals and/or teams.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work, including managing several projects concurrently, with efficiency and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong orientation towards data and efficient systems, with ability to communicate their value to others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to author grants and other internal and external documents in partnership with the Development & Expansion and Marketing and Communications teams.
  • Ability to take initiative, think creatively, and manage up and sideways effectively,

 

Compensation/Benefits: 

Travel
Anticipated 15-20%

Location
Applicants must reside within a GreenLight registered state with relative proximity to a current or future GreenLight site. These include: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Applicants who do not meet location requirements will not be considered.

Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary for this position is $85,000. GreenLight Fund offers a generous benefits package that includes: 

  • Health Insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield (80% paid by GLF, 20% by the employee for employees and family members)
  • Dental and Vision Insurance through Guardian (80% paid by GLF, 20% by the employee for employees and family members)
  • Full coverage of all mental health visit copays through Blue Cross Blue Shield (100% paid by GLF)
  • Safe Harbor 401k. GLF will match 100% of the first 3% of salary and 50% of the next 2%
  • Short and Long-term disability and Life insurance fully paid by GreenLight Fund
  • 10 company-wide holiday closings and 3 floating holidays
  • The week between Christmas Day and New Year's Day off
  • Up to 12 sick days (6 days in your first year, if you start after July 1st)
