Behavior Specialist

Position Summary:

To provide behavior training and consultation to individuals, managers, and directors to enhance the success of the individual receiving services. To work with individuals in the facilities and homes and develop interventions to increase progress toward their goals. To assist the Beyond Behaviors department in improving/enhancing the quality of life for individuals with behavioral difficulties.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement behavioral objectives 
  • Observe individual in their environment, analyze existing data and conduct assessments to increase individual success. 
  • Model implementation of behavior plans/strategies in the individual environment. 
  • Participate in the multi-disciplinary process 
  • Conduct in-service training on related topics with professionals and paraprofessionals 
  • Assure that needed documentation is maintained
  • Prepare and submit reports within designated time frames 
  • Analyze and interpret data to be used for improving maladaptive behaviors
  • Work with parents and guardians as requested 
  • Develop and implement functional behavioral assessments
  • Provide ABA training 
  • Provide hands-on behavioral training and observations as needed 
  • Assure that all services are within licensing requirements and accreditation standards 
  • Provide case management services for therapeutic foster care
  • Attend staff, professional and inter-agency meetings 
  • Keep abreast of new developments in order to provide consultation as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Executive Director
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the General public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Represents the Agency at community and business meetings to discuss and educate the community, the programs, and the Agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in psychology, special education, counseling, social work or a related field; Or
  • Licensure/certification in one of the following categories:
  • Licensure:
  • Psychologist (OCGA 43-39-1)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (OCGA 43-10A-1)
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (OCGA 43-10A-1)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (OCGA 43-10A-1)
  • Psychiatrist (OCGA 43-24-20)
  • Registered Nurse (OCGA 43-26-3)
  • Certification:
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (certified through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board)

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in office, program, and residential settings with a moderate noise level.
  • While performing duties, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, communicate, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Travel Required

  • Position requires frequent travel

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises the work of direct support professionals and others who implement behavior-analytic interventions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
