ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the Director of Community Mobilization Strategy (CMS), the Program Manager is responsible for supporting MCAN’s initiatives by managing grants, strengthening community networks, and assisting in program development. The Program Manager will be a key contributor in the CMS department’s work with Local College Access Networks as well as Promise Zones. This role requires strong collaboration, strategic thinking, and the ability to work independently while advancing MCAN’s mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 The Program  Manager performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Support grantmaking within the department and across the organization as necessary:
    • Manage the administration of the grantmaking process including outreach, review, agreements, payments and reporting;
    • Maintain records and data on all grants given including financial, legal and correspondence;
    • Serve as the primary manager of the online grant management system, SurveyMonkey Apply including supporting and training others in its use.
  • Support MCAN’s Local College Access Network (LCAN) strategy:
    • Develop an expertise on the Collective Impact systems change framework that MCAN uses to support LCANs;
    • Assist in developing, implementing and evaluating all LCAN trainings, convenings, coaching etc.;
    • Review and update materials, publications and tools to support LCANs;
    • Serve as a coach/liaison for a cohort of LCANs and support others serving as a coach/liaison for LCANs;
    • Find new opportunities to help communities build sustainable, strategic and strong networks across the state.
  • Manage the Community Ambassador program, including evaluation of long-term viability.
  • Provide support in the planning, development, launch and expansion or evolution of departmental strategies including new programming.
  • Give presentations to both internal and external audiences when necessary.
  • Represent the organization, especially its community-based work, to constituents, funders, partners, grantees and others as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as needed to advance the mission of the Michigan College Access Network.

Skills/Experience: 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Have an ability to collaborate across departments on multiple projects and timelines, and work independently with minimal management to effectively perform duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have ability to think critically to solve problems, pay attention to detail, and follow through on tasks assigned through completion.
  • Work efficiently and adhere to established deadlines.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have a passion for working in the nonprofit and education sector, especially for postsecondary attainment.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability for regular in-state and occasional national travel/ overnight stays.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in higher education, public administration, or other related fields. Master preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience working in education or community-based organizations

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer either in a sitting or standing position.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate organization’s office facilities.

 

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $64,000.00

Full benefits package includes platinum health, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts. Also includes education support program, employee development program consisting of a $1000 per employee annual budget for professional development, 403b retirement plan (with standard 4% employer contribution and up to an additional 3% match), 240 hours of PTO, 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks fully paid maternity/paternity/adoption leave, employee assistance program, downtown Lansing parking permit and cell phone reimbursement.
