Position Summary:
This is a full-time position with American Bird Conservancy (ABC). The Social Media Specialist develops, implements, and evolves an effective social media strategy for American Bird Conservancy by creating compelling content that advances ABC's mission as well as engages, grows, and converts audiences across multiple social media platforms.
The ideal candidate has experience and proven success growing and cultivating social media audiences, managing multiple forms of constituent engagement, generating content that meets key goals, and working collaboratively both internally and externally with colleagues, partners, influencers, organizations, and brands.
Primary Duties:
- Own, evolve, and effectively execute a comprehensive social media strategy that raises awareness of the ABC brand, engages followers, and drives relevant actions to grow the ABC email list and generate revenue.
- Manage ABC's social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, and BlueSky.
- Create and continually optimize content, both written and visual, for ABC's social media platforms.
- Create and execute a social media content calendar that integrates with ABC and Communications and Marketing priorities and optimizes opportunities for engagement and action.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with social media audiences with specific attention to ABC supporters, partners, projects and coalitions, as well as bird conservation-related organizations and influencers.
- Develop, iterate, and oversee application of social media policies and guidance for constituent engagement as well as for staff, partners, and collaborators acting on behalf of ABC.
- Oversee constituent engagement on organic and paid media across all ABC social media platforms, including but not limited to managing direct messages, comments, tags, and relevant discussions that include reference or connection to ABC.
- Appropriately manage sensitive discussions, and immediately escalate concerns or situations that may impact the ABC brand.
- Serve as strategic consultant for ABC partners, projects, and coalitions that have their own social media platforms, including ensuring the application of best practices and cross-promotion between accounts.
- Identify and manage social media partnership and platform opportunities.
- Define, track, and report on metrics; analyze results; and devise strategies to consistently achieve growth in followers, impressions, engagement, and conversions.
- Assist Communications and Marketing team with other constituent engagement needs for other channels, including during online and in-person events.
- Partner with marketing team counterparts on paid social media efforts
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging multimedia content tailored for each platform that encourages consistent engagement
- Knowledge and basic skills with photo, video, audio, and infographic creation
- Familiarity and competency with Canva or Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Experience cultivating and managing collaborative relationships with colleagues and/or partners
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects with varying deadlines
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Experience analyzing success using social media metrics Strong list of successful social media campaign results
- Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends across social platforms
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Authorized to work in the US or Permanent Resident
- Background screening required
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills a plus
- Multicultural or cross-cultural experience
- Experience working with non-English language media, especially Spanish-language media in the U.S.
- Interest in birds, conservation, environmental justice, or related areas
- Willingness and ability to serve as on-screen talent
