This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The accounting manager leads the accounting staff,follows accounting policies and internal control procedures, and is responsible for the preparation of complete and accurate financial statements and operating reports.Intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Prepares monthly financial statements for distribution to management, board, and others.
- Maintains an accounting system to properly record and report all transactions, assets, and liabilities for all funds.
- Prepares and reviews journal entries
- Prepares and supervises monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
- Prepares and supervises and monthly bank account reconciliations
- Effectively reports and tracks restricted gifts and earnings.
- Supports operating cash flow management.
- Prepares and manages the annual audit process with outside auditors.
- Assists with tax and regulatory filings.
- Hires, trains, and oversees assigned staff, providing direct supervision.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- Five or more years of related experience in accounting.
- Demonstrated progressive accounting experience with general ledger in a nonprofit organization preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory accounting role.
- Ability to work with enterprise software and accounting systems.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
