Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director or designated supervisor and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA, the School Age Child Care Director will promote quality School Age Child Care & Camp programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Plan, develop, market, supervise, and implement the program activities for Child Care and off site camp programs.
  • Assist in development of program budget in all departments.
  • Develop and distribute parent communication in After School & Camp
  • Assist with supervision and planning of Day Camp at the branch
  • Work with the Senior Program Director to ensure we are following Association Transportation policies.
  • Maintain proper documentation to meet or exceed state licensing requirements, the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA Child Care Quality Standards, Platinum Standards and the YMCA of the USA Child Care Quality Check.
  • Cultivate relationships with parents and members and create positive experiences for participants and parents.
  • Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Act as a leader in emergency situations. Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.
  • Follow mandated child abuse reporting requirements.
  • Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Support and United Way Campaigns.
  • Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow branch Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). 
  • Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Child Care Department and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
  • Develop staff training and development for all departments
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation, or a child related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be 21 years of age and program director qualified in the state of Virginia 
  • A minimum of three years' experience leading a School Age Child Care program and/or Summer Camp program 
  • Possess a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record and valid motor vehicle insurance, CDL Class B license preferred but not required.
  • Medication Administration Training (MAT) Certification preferred or required within 60 days of hire.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 60 days of hire.
  • High professionalism; enthusiasm, and drive  
  • Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment. 
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $36,207.00 - $40,000.00
