Under the supervision of the Operations Director and in harmony with the Mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Senior Program Director works in conjunction with the Operations Director to oversee Youth & Family Services Programs to ensure the goals and mission of the Association are accomplished. Main program areas include Summer Camp, School Age Care, Teen Programs, Pre-School Enrichment programs, Arts & Humanities, Youth Sports, Youth and Child Watch, Family Events/Programs and informal recreation. This position supervises three full-time exempt and non-exempt employees and numerous part-time and seasonal youth department employees and volunteers to ensure successful programming. This position will provide leadership in developing and maintaining safe, quality programs for the YMCA community that supports the goals and mission of the YMCA. Major emphasis and responsibilities must be in the areas of budget, facility, community relationships, program growth and staff development and the positive approach to problem solving.
1. Community Development and Collaborations:
- Supports the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA while promoting character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all program areas.
- Represents the Association in collaborations with outside civic and community organizations to promote the YMCA.
- Actively participates in Association launch teams, committees and/or leadership teams to promote Branch/Association unity.
- Promotes and participates in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Giving, Capital and United Way Campaigns.
- Participates in the corporate planning process through setting and implementing goals and objectives.
2. Program/Membership Development:
- Develops and maintains quality programs that meet the needs of your YMCA service area.
- Ensures outstanding customer service through Association quality guidelines.
- Participates in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members.
3. Staff Development:
- Selects, employs and supervises staff in related areas; appraise performance and recommend training as needed.
- Provides leadership to the branch management team to ensure that quality services are provided.
4. Financial Management and Budgeting:
- Prepares and administers assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
5. Facility Management:
- Works with staff to ensure smooth program operations within assigned facilities.
- Develops, manages and monitors maintenance of facility and equipment.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Three (3) - Five years experience as a YMCA Director, or experience in a related field.
- YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification preferred.
- Background must include strong skills in human relations, budgeting, sound fiscal management, program management, volunteer and staff development, board committee relations and staff supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
