Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing and implementing programs in aquatics for youth through senior age groups. The Aquatics Director must develop and encourage membership through program participation and direct and supervise all program activities while ensuring a safe aquatic environment.

- Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
- Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Participates in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members.
- Prepares and administers assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
- Actively participates in association task forces, committees and/or workgroups to promote Branch unity.
- Promotes and participates in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Current Support, Capital and United Way Campaigns.
- Plans, supervises, and implements aquatics program in accordance with established goals and policies.
- Supervises Associate Aquatic Director and leads and communicates effectively.
- Advises supervisor on all phases of staff organization, programs, and plans for future growth of the department and budget.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates the aquatics staff within the approved budget.
- Interprets and communicates the objectives and purpose of the association to the community through public communications, media and community organizations, press releases and feature stories.
- Maintains relationships with members and program participants through verbal and written communications and strives to encourage the growth of membership participation and retention.
- Maintains a current schedule of pool activities.
- Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of pool area, facilities and filtration systems.
- Understands and relates the purpose and goals of the YMCA to staff and program participants.
- Ensures that all staff members follow the policies and procedures stated in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
- Provides instruction in Lifeguarding, as well as, CPR and First Aid on a regular basis for the branch and the association.
- Assist branch risk manager by conducting drills, training staff, and carrying out branch Emergency Operations Procedures protocols.
- Assumes other related duties deemed necessary by appropriate supervisor.
Educational Background:
Must possess a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Must have a minimum of two years experience in pool management and operations and a history of aquatics programming experience.
- Must hold YMCA certifications (or Red Cross equivalence) in YMCA Aquatic Management, Life guarding, Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Swimming Instructor; Trainer level certifications preferred.
- Must possess a Pool Operator certification with strong working knowledge of aquatic systems and management.
- Must be able to recruit, hire, certify and supervise personnel needed for programs.
- Must be able to provide sound financial judgment and operate a departmental budget.
- Current and ongoing First Aid, Professional Rescuer CPR, AED, and Oxygen certification.
- Must maintain accurate records.
- Must maintain the current certifications and knowledge to ensure that YMCA facilities and equipment are in accordance with health codes.
- Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, Virginia State Police background check, and Child Protective Services check.
Compensation/Benefits:
$35,000.00 - $38,000.00
