The Wellness Director must have a thorough knowledge of wellness programs offered at a branch and association level. The incumbent must understand and embrace the member/staff partnership and be able to work closely with volunteers in developing and implementing programs for the branch and association according to set goals and objectives 

 The Director must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Creativity, insight and skills to develop, monitor and achieve program goals are critical. Leadership, strong human relations skills, problem solving skills and critical thinking capacity are necessary. Integral to the position is the knowledge and understanding of administrative and financial management of the department, brining a team mentality to the branch and association, program development and planning, and a working knowledge of facility operations and management.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and YMCA objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Keeps accurate records of staff certifications and training.
  • Works with staff to continually improve member engagement and experience.
  • Develops, models and integrates systems and practices that encourage and sustain positive relationships and retention of members/participants.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Manages payroll related transactions and monitor for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.
  • Responsible for all safety requirements and regulations necessary for the proper daily operation of the wellness center and programs.
  • Maintains wellness equipment and facilities, purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates program quality and enrollment.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
  • Coordinates use of branch facilities and necessary community accommodations for program activities and events.
  • Responds to all wellness related inquiries and suggestions in a timely manner.
  • Assists in branch Annual Campaign, fund raising activities and special events.
  • Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings. Serves on the Association Wellness Quality Team, and the Branch Inclusion, Membership & Program Committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of two year’s related experience preferred or five or more years of related experience.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience in customer service and/or fitness training or instruction.
  • Demonstrated success leading member-focused or equivalent team.
  • Demonstrated leadership, dependability and flexibility in work hours.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $32,000.00 - $37,000.00
