Under direction of the Senior Staff and CEO, the Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, organizing and executing Youth Programming including Aquatics programs, coordinating and working with volunteers, assisting with special events, and collaborating with community agencies and partners to create additional program opportunities.
The Program Coordinator must have the ability to thrive and multi-task in a busy environment, communicate effectively with parents, staff and volunteers while delivering high-quality, affordable programs to enhance opportunities for children, families and adults.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Must ensure high-quality programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Expands, develops, organizes and executes programming for children, teen, adults and families.
- Recruits, trains and provides strong leadership to staff and volunteers, including adherence to safety procedures and protocols. Reviews and evaluates volunteers and staff performance.
- Develops and coordinates staff schedules, program activity schedules. Secures and schedules program facilities etc. to support programs.
- Develops strategies to create a positive culture among staff and to motivate volunteers and staff to achieve goals.
- Develops and implements strategies to increase teen involvement in the Y mission including; program participation, volunteerism & social activity.
- Manages expenses to approved budget while meeting programing needs, including; purchasing supplies, managing program staff expenditures and meeting fiscal objectives.
- Ensures that programs and services are cause driven, evaluated regularly and utilizes feedback to improve programs and services.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helps them connect with other members and participants and the mission of the YMCA.
- Ensures records of volunteers and staff certifications are current and complete.
- Acts as a liaison with other community agencies and partners to foster program improvement & innovation, promote and expand the Y’s programs and services within the community.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Ensures cleanliness and monitors maintenance of program spaces and provides input to management staff.
- Understands the need for hands on involvement in all program areas.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Fosters a safe and respectful environment within a diverse community of youth, adults, families, volunteers, and partner agencies demonstrating the YMCA’s 4 Core Values: Honesty, Respect, Caring & Responsibility.
- Attends YMCA trainings and professional development opportunities.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events
- Attends all trainings and meetings as required even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of two years related experience preferred.
- Must be 21 years old to apply and pass comprehensive background check
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple program areas at multiple locations.
- Must have proven results with experience in building and implementing Youth/Family programming in enrichment, recreational and sports and Aquatics.
- Certifications: Minimum LGT, CPR AED and Basic First Aid. YMCA or RC Swim Instructor (trainer level preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain information to diverse groups, volunteers and all levels of staff.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all ethnic, social and economic segments of the community with a track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
- Must be proactive, self-directed and highly motivated.
- Understands need for flexibility of position to meet programming needs and proper supervision.
- Physical Demands: Ability to instruct and observe participants in all programs, ability to lift equipment, run, walk, lift up to 50 lbs.
