Develops, organizes and implements a high-quality YMCA child care program to serve Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers, Out of School Time children and their families.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages, directs and coordinates the Infant/Toddler/Preschool/Out of School Time child care programs. Ensures high-quality programs and establishes new program activities. Represents the program within the community by participating and collaborating with agencies to enhance the program and build support.
- With consultation to the Director, manages hiring, orientation, discharge, scheduling, and supervision of all educators. Ongoing supervision includes observation, evaluation, and training. Oversees development and implementation of Individual Professional Development Plans in accordance with DEEC/NAEYC/QRIS. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Assures that daily operation of the program is in full compliance with state and local regulations, NAEYC standards, and YMCA program standards. Maintains all required paperwork to support compliance.
- Develops and maintains relationships with the state child care licensing agency, school administrators, and other organizations and agencies related to the program. Responds to any agency, parent or community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Spends quality time in each classroom assisting and supporting educators and providing mentoring and coaching at all times. Assures educators are providing developmentally appropriate curriculum and positive engagement with children at all times.
- Provides staff leadership and support in the implementation of the ongoing system of screening, assessment, curriculum, and individualization. Provides necessary orientation and ongoing support of the current system.
- Directly supervises and supports the Supervising Lead Teachers and OST Site Coordinators. Assures that they have scheduled time away from their teaching responsibilities.
- Maintains proper records/department files in conjunction with the Director of Child Care Services.
- Plans parent activities in conjunction with the Social Services Coordinator.
- Assists parents/guardians as needed with entry orientation, understanding policy, resolving issues/concerns, and providing feedback concerning the program.
- Conducts and documents monthly required staff meetings; in conjunction with the Director plans and coordinates the four Professional Development Days.
- Participates in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Other duties as required to support the overall mission of the Tri-Community Family Branch and to ensure the success of the Child Care Department.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Skills/Experience:
- DEEC Director 1 qualified
- Minimum of two years of experience as a lead teacher, coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Must be computer proficient; use of WORD, POWERPOINT, EXCEL etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.
