Abby’s House seeks a talented, authentic, and experienced Associate Director of Development to join our high-performing team in achieving annual and major giving program objectives.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and Communications, the Associate Director of Development is an integral member of Abby’s House Development team in our efforts to secure and grow philanthropic support.  The Associate Director of Development will identify, solicit and cultivate relationships with current and prospective annual and major donors.  The ideal candidate will have experience building high-touch, long-term relationships and demonstrated success in asking for and closing major and planned gifts.  We seek a warm, enthusiastic, collaborative professional who can manage multiple tasks at one time and is highly motivated to make a difference in the lives of women and children experiencing homelessness and trauma.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Major Donor Solicitation and Portfolio Management; – 65%
  • Corporate Solicitation and Management – 30%
  • Manage Annual Planned Giving Program – Abby’s House Legacy Circle – 5%

Major Donor Solicitation, Portfolio Management and Co-Leadership – 65%

Build and Grow Support

  • Manage a portfolio of 200-250 prospects. Complete 80+ donor visits each year, make 200 asks, and increase revenue to raise significant support from major donors.
  • Identify and research prospects; solicit prospects for increased commitments; qualify and steward prospects toward annual and major gift solicitation; prepare and submit proposals; cultivate prospects; track results.
  • Devises, recommends, and executes cultivation and solicitation strategies, including strategies to generate increased giving.
  • Work cross-functionally with Executive Director, Director of Development, Development & Communications Specialist, and others to develop communications and marketing materials used to inform, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors.
  • Co-lead Development team efforts with the Senior Director of Development and Communications including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts, ad hoc projects, and helps to manage daily operations of the team.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of Abby’s House’s fundraising donor management database and tracking systems to report progress toward achieving annual goals.
  • Continuously update the fundraising management database with relevant information related to donor strategies, stages, ask amounts, and contacts.

Corporate Sponsorship Solicitation and Management – 30%

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Development, identify, solicit, and steward corporate sponsorships for Abby’s House’s two annual fundraising events: Spring-Tacular and the 5K, with the goal of securing $115K+.
  • Develop strategies to increase corporate giving and engagement. Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective corporate donors and develop strategies to increase their level of giving and full engagement.
  • Maintain corporate sponsorship files and donor records.
  • Additionally, participate in various special projects and community networking events to promote the mission and visibility of Abby’s House.

Manage Annual Planned Giving Program – Abby’s House Legacy Circle – 5%

  • Develop and create new annual programming and communication materials to identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward Abby’s House’s current and prospective Legacy Circle donors.
  • In coordination with the Director of Development, provide education about planned gift opportunities featuring a combination of beneficiary designations and bequests.
  • Provide Abby’s House Legacy Circle information through telephone calls, emails, written gift proposals and program updates, and in-person meetings.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, create and lead one annual Abby’s House Legacy Circle event that is designed to cultivate and educate donors on the benefits of naming Abby’s House in their estate plans.
  • Ensure proper documentation and gift acceptance guidelines are followed.
Educational Background: 
• Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three years of non-profit fundraising experience, with increasing responsibilities in portfolio moves management, and size of gifts secured and leadership.
  • Exceptional reasoning, problem solving, and analytical skills, including an ability to translate ideas and concepts into clear, actionable steps.
  • Ability to work independently as well collaboratively with team members and volunteers with initiative and flexibility.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and experience working with a fundraising database.
  • Confidence to proactively seek out prospective major donors, build new relationships, and solicit support.
  • Ability to work both independently towards a fundraising goal, as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate ideas with enthusiasm to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals as well as meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to the mission of empowering homeless women, with or without children.
  • Ability to interact effectively with board members, volunteers, and co-workers of all levels, as well as with representatives of other organizations and institutions.
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy; works well with people of all ethnic, social, economic, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
  • Willingness to enhance professional skills through trainings, conferences, and individual mentoring
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, 35-hour per week, primarily onsite position with some local travel. Abby’s House provides competitive pay based on a market analysis of comparable positions and offers work-life flexibility and balance, including generous paid time off and 11 holidays. The organization contributes 70% toward the premium for a family or individual health insurance plan through Abby’s House, and offers low-cost vision and dental insurance, and employer-paid life, long-term and short-term disability insurance.
