Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Director of Fitness and Wellness will successfully lead the fitness & wellness department, providing quality programming and member engagement. 

The Director of Fitness and Wellness will provide the leadership necessary to advance the mission of the organization and is responsible for the development, instruction, retention, maintenance, and staffing of all health and wellness functions at the YMCA including, but not limited to: Group Exercise Classes, Strength and Cardiovascular, Personal Training; Floor Trainers, Fitness Assessments, and Youth Fitness Programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implement membership strategies though health and wellness that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. 
  • Create a member-focused culture and model relationship-building skills in all interactions. 
  • Foster a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction. 
  • Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members though health and wellness programs and initiatives. 
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget and takes appropriate action to correct variances. Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign. 
  • Ensure proper implementation of departmental and organizational procedures. Reviews and updates departmental procedures and communicates changes to staff. 
  • Coordinate with the business office as necessary on financial transactions. 
  • Organizes health and wellness events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA. 
  • Lead group exercise classes, as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field is preferred. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • The candidate will have (5) five years' experience in the fitness industry with at least (2) two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e. ACE, ACSM, NASM). 
  • Acquire CPR, First Aid, AED and 02 within 60 days of hire. 
  • YMCA Director Certification preferred. 
  • Must be a people person with the ability to build relationships with and among members.
  • Enthusiastic team player and healthy role model with solid understanding of the YMCA Mission, Membership & Wellness programs. 
  • Knowledge and successful experience and skills in staff supervision, fitness programming, marketing and promotions. 
  • Self-motivated, strong leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills, and good administrative skills.
